Default Sideview mirrors heat...

Has anyone tried putting on some kind of heating element on the back of the side view mirrors? Or replaced the mirrors all together with different ones that heats up? I am looking to do this either by having heat turn on when rear defroster is turned on or independent on/off switch. Is this possible with the OEM mirrors? Thanks guys.......

You would have to find a car with a similar sized mirror, buy the assembly, including power to adjust the mirror, and somehow mount it in your housings. There may also be glass cutting to make it match up... seems costly to accomplish. I usually just slapped some rain-x on the mirror and most of the condensation just wiped right off in the mornings.

I do understand the want though... heated mirrors on my Passat are the shiz.

Or, you use the heated elements that go on snowmobile handles. You have to remove the mirror lens itself, clean of the adhesive from both surfaces, the element would be samwiched between the mirror and the assembly with industrial adhesive, then wire the element thru the door to either a switch in the dash, or if you know the wiring involved in the hvac panel, you could possibly wire it into the defrost button. Its been done on xDs.

Don't mean to dig up an old thread, but this came up as I was trying to search if my Tc had heated mirrors, so hopefully this will useful to others.

Yup we got them up here.
It's weird because the rear defog button doesn't say that it's for the mirrors too but it is!

Which is weird because normally we get cars with less features than US models for a lot more...

The tC is more but at least what we get with ours is worth the price difference (including exchange rates)

Maybe Toyota wanted to do something good for it being the first year for Scion in Canada.

Going back l the original question (if anyone is still following)... Now that we know the tC can come with heated mirrors we just need to find the part # and wiring diagram!

i don't think Canadian TC have heated side mirrors. Doesn't side mirrors usually have the symbol on it to indicate that it does have it?? Like on the bottom left or right corner?

It was froze up the past couple of days and I turn on my heat and the side mirrors were not getting de-frosted....

The symbol is this one...

Not all cars have indicators on the mirrors.

My parents have a 2004 Odyssey and a 2006 Accord and they don't have any indicators on their side mirrors when it's activated. Although they do have a separate button for the side mirrors.

For the tC the heated side mirrors button is the same one for your rear glass which is on the center control **** for the HVAC fan speed. Push that button and both side mirrors and rear glass are on. Try it next time it's frosted up in the morning.

btw.. no TPMS on our tC's sold up here

I'd much rather have heated side mirrors than TPMS. Tires naturally lose air pressure over time and require periodic maintenance. I check my tire pressure around once a month, adding air as necessary. I have had times where my mirrors had frosted over and it's been an annoyance not having heated mirrors. You guys also have a rear wiper, another nice feature.
