Default Still got Toyota on the mind

Cant stop thinking about the tc2... Now after seeing black mambas build makes me want another tc even more (provided I don't get the fr-s)
I also like how the interior is reminiscent of the supra mk4

So I was wondering tc2 owners, can you guys compile
A 10 reason why I should go for the tc2 list? Also of you have one and are not happy or reasons why I shouldn't, speak up.

If I do get one I'm going for the performance build-descendent. I'd be coming from a top trim cr-z.

reasons for getting the TC2:
Cheap,
well equipped for the price,
spacious even for people six feet plus like myself
the double sunroof
it's not a hybrid so people wont point and laugh at you
its pretty
with minor mods can become a reasonably quick car for the money
the handling for a fwd car is very good and can be improved for just a small amount
its a hatchback that doesn look like a hatchback!
did i mention its not a hybrid so people wont point and laugh at you?

Reasons you should buy something else:

Manual transmission has terrible rev hang
Lacking low-end grunt
Extremely cheap, hard interior plastics
Average fuel economy
Rattles everywhere
Lacking aftermarket support
Expensive to insure (my BRZ is cheaper...seriously)

Stick with your CR-Z. Seriously.

Good:
1) Can't beat the price.
2) Audio was good for $20k car.
3) I liked the exhaust sound.
4) Amazing back seat room and trunk space.

Bad:
1) Roof was making an annoying ticking noise. I got rid of the car because of this noise.
2) Clunky manual transmission.
3) Driver side rear suspension was making a clicking noise going over bumps.

What's interesting is, I was trying to get a CR-Z when I got rid of tC2, but the Honda dealers here did not bring any with manual transmission for the whole 9 months, I ended up getting an FR-S. If you have CR-Z now, I recommend keeping it.

It is a fun car, that handles pretty well and can go moderately fast. Its not a race car even though some of us try to turn it into that, or think it is at one point or another. For the price its a pretty good car and I hope it will last a long time. Mine makes creaking noises and things too but the interior is made up of several plastic parts and they all come apart like puzzle pieces so it makes sense that it makes some noise here and there.

One huge plus is that the seats fold to make a lot of cargo space and you can fit huge people in the back (just gotta watch their heads). Lots of leg room. More than in my dads IS250 and thats a 4 door. Also gets decent gas mileage (mine is still around 24/31 with a CAI and Cat Back Exhaust)

I'll trade you cars haha. I have the 6sp ex with navi. If I would ever get the tc2 it would have to be the rs7.0. I wonder if there are any manuals left...

But I love the fr-s I just think im starstruck right now and it's getting wayyyy better credit than it's due. I know its an affordable rwd sports car but so is the gen coupe, at 24,000 with 275hp. I think a lot of people are jumping on the fr-s because its being advertised like crazy. And these people were never interested in scion/toyota before... But idk

pros:
-best steering wheel ever at this price.
-six speed
-more aggressive exterior styling than tc1
-18 inch wheels are kick ___, the fr-s doesn't even come with 18's
-8 speaker great sounding audio
-mine doesn't make any creaking noises. for that matter, it doesn't make any weird noises at all.

cons:
-front end paint easily chips from bugs (at least on mine)
-car sits way to high stock

overall i love the interior, but this is the most expensive car i've ever owned. maybe all these people complaining about plastic on the interior traded in Jaguars for tc2s and thats why they say the interior is so awful.
also, mine is cheaper to insure than the 06 explorer i traded on my tC. I could not be happier with my tC with the exception of the cheap ___ paint.

It's good to hear you're backing the tc. I had a 2009 tc and
I understand what they mean about the downgrade
Interior. But you have made some good defensive points.

The pros/cons debate is one we've talked about a million times on various threads in the forum. It's always going to come down to a built car vs. a bought car, so understand what you're buying and you won't be disappointed. The tc2 is an 18k blank canvas, it's as good as you make it. There are plenty of people that will say, "yeah but for a few thousand more you can have X horsepower and Y interior." --But that's precisely the point. Many of us who buy the scion take that few grand difference and put our own parts into it. Those that hate the car because it has a plastic interior and lacks a serene, quiet ride should have bought a Buick.

Very good point. And that's half the reason I loved my tC, I made it into a better car.

Yes, I love my tC, sure, its not perfect and the window switches rattle a bit sometimes (which is easily remedied) but I LOVE the car! I have no problems with the interior, because in mine at least, it does not feel or look cheap ;) Stock it's a pretty good performer but as stated above, the tC is nto a race car, it is an economy car that is more fun than most economy cars. It is something that will get you from point a to point b very nicely and stylishly at the same time. With a couple grand or hundred in parts the tC can be turned into a much more fun car (from a handling standpoint, at least.) I have swaybars on mine and it handles very well. I bet if it had springs or coilovers it would handle even better! (I'm sure Black Mamba can chime in on that.

Pros:
Cheap (I got mine for 18,865 new with 51 miles)
Aggressive looking (I like it better than the tC1)
Mods easily done to it, and has multiple options for wheels now with 5x114.3
Relatively quick for a manual 6 speed
Good gas mileage 31/24
Stock exhaust is nice
Speakers are quality
Tons of room. I fit a 42" tv horizontally in my trunk.

Cons:
Plastic interior
Cheap transmission (Sloppy gears)
Paint is way thin, and chips easily

I am amazed at the people on this site thinking the tC2 has a bad/sloppy trans. I've never missed a gear. It's obvious not many of you have ever driven a cheap American 5spd.

LOL? So the majority that have driven many manual cars and say that transmission is cheap.. Are all wrong? So you're an expert. You must be God's gift to driving manual cars!

When I say sloppy, I mean... You have to reclutch sometimes to engage it into gear. The play on the clutch is huge. They had to replace my synchro's already on my tc2's transmission already. Not even my fault, the shift fork bushing spun off into my 3rd gear. During the cold months, the transmission hates its life. It's not about "missing" gears, it's about how it reacts and how uncooperative it is sometimes.
