Is vsc the thing that tries to slow my car down when it's going sideways?

Yes, and traction control is for when your tires slip but you are moving straight

I consider the stock Yokohama tires to be winter-biased all-seasons.

My '13 tC was my 1st car to have Traction Control etc. (I'm old school i guess. Learned to drive when front wheel drive was a novelty.) First snow fall the ruddy car nearly drove me into the nearest ditch! What the -?!?

Trac-c started to retard my power output when i hit a snow rut (almost perfectly inline with the road & my travel). With front-wheel drive cars, in snow, you power yer way straight again. But because of the auto-retard
I lost power & the wheel in the snow-groove pulled me off-line & almost right into the ditch! Good thing I wasn't traveling all that fast & lost enuff momentum to stop before I rolled in. Big a__ ditches up here north of the border.

Never again!

Stoopid button: system should stay off when turned offed. Not this whamby bamby 2-stage press & hold routine. Bothersome

Now when it snows, off comes Trac-C. I'll control the car spank you very much computers! Grumble grumble

Cheers
Azz

I lived in Alaska 8 years, and I very much appreciated leaving TC on, it does as it programmed to do and does it wonderfully. taking it off would of surely ended up me in ditches. cant really agree with the sentiment of turning it off.
