Default Toyota care extended warranty and springs

i opted into buying the extended care warranty since i got the guy down to 800$ for 8 years. will installing toyota racing development lowering springs myself void my suspension and drivetrain warranty? what am i losing out on from not having a authorized scion dealer do this for me?

i read somewhere that toyota doesnt even have any records of who installs the parts for you. some dude had trd stuff in his car when he bought it, asked toyota about it, and they didnt know who did it. so ur warrantee should be okay. as long as its trd parts

if you have your toyota dealership install the springs, they are covered under the 3 yr 36,000 mile warranty. If you have anyone other than a Toyota/Scion Dealership install the springs, they are only covered under a 12 month/12,000 mile parts only warranty. This is true regardless of any extended warranty that you have.

thanks for the responses. i see alot of people on here opt to install their own springs, although most of them being Tein, which probably carry a different warranty than a trd product. but for TRD springs which path did you guys pick/recommend? dealer install/random mechanic shop install/self install?

depending on your experience with tools and cars, id say do it yourself. youll save soo much money that way. shops usually charge a rediculous amount for labor. they try so hard to rip you off.

i dont have much mechanical experience but i watched the video papa bear posted documenting his install and read a few other threads about installing springs/coils and it really doesnt seem too difficult, i also wouldnt mind learning how to do it myself. im more or less just gathering opinions on the warranty thing and seeing how you guys analyze the pros/cons of your install choice

icic. where are you located? i could do the instal for you for suuuper cheap. i can teach you while im at it also. ive done instals for many ppl here on this forum. some for free, some for cheap.

and btw, when i got my car, i also got the warrantee. at first, i was paranoid about any mods voiding it, but eventually i stopped caring about it. and the mods came in like crazy. haha. if anything happens to mess up, i would just throw my stocks back on and take it to the dealership. hahaha

H-techsve the Tein H-techs and am considering switching to the TRDs. Dealer quoted me $225 for the springs and $350 (4 hrs) for the install, including alignment. With air tools, it shouldn't take them more tha 90 min WITH the alignment.

Has anyone gotten their tc2 lowered with the TRD lowering springs at the dealer? I'm considering dropping my car and wonder what the approx cost is.

While the Magnuson Moss warranty act states that any mod does not void a factory warranty unless the cause of failure can be traced to the mod, expect to lose a few things. Springs will change the suspension geometry, and this will in turn affect a few covered items. Drive axle, CV boot, suspension bushings, etc. if they wear early will probably no longer be covered.

Short answer, suspension probably no longer covered, drivetrain & power should be safe. I broke my first motor with a supercharger, but later brought the car in for body warranty work (broken tail garnish, stress cracked windshield). Both got covered since they had nothing to do with the engine.
