Default H4 HID Bulb Mod

I recently installed a 10k HID conversion kit to my xa, looks great. Unfortunately my highbeams are gone. But when I look at my headlight it looks like only the top part is illuminated or permanent highbeams, I look at the hid bulb and see that there is a metal shield at the bottom. I was thinking about cutting of this metal shield so the bulb can shine to the bottom of the housing of my headlight. Whats the point of the shield and did anyone decide to take it off??

thanks

That is there as a cut-off mechanism... the xA need dual-beam bulb.. it needs a cut-off... if you take the metal piece off.. you will be driving with permenant High Beams... I would not recommend that.

dual beam HID are expensive around 300+ bucks and they come with 4 ballasts... xA doesn't have much room to mount them... and honesly... how often do you use your high beams?

they also have hid's that retract in and out for high and low beam. I just bought a kit. but yes they do have dual xenon hid's which I find no point in because your high beams are not on for a long amuont of time expecally in and around the city. Hid's are not me to be flipped on and off alot this is why I bought the retacting ones.

you are not getting only "half" of the HID. If you look at OEM D2R type bulbs, that use reflective bowl (OEM D2R = reflective bowl HID. OEM D2S = projector HID) like the old Lexus IS300, old Acura TLs, only the top half is illuminated to obtain a proper cutoff pattern. Don't take off the shield, it would look ugly and cheap like a set of those improperly rebased HID bulbs with hot spots and glare and stuck it in there.

Just do what I did. Go to operatic's HID buy in the classified section and buy his Bi-Xenons. I bought them and I've had them in for about a month now. I love them. Lo beams and hi beams. They're bright as ____. I bought 6000k and I love them. When someone on the road ____es me off I use the hi beams and drive right behind them. It's quite funny. There's not much glare if any at all with them actually. I've had friends tell me they're just bright as ____ like HIDs should be.

Eightball-- just looking at your avatar pic of your headlight, it looks really nice! What kind of setup is that? The actual light looks similar to an LED, but is it? If not, what exactly is it you're running in there?

he's running the Infiniti Q45 HID projector(s). That's about the only thing that looks fit in our big xA reflector bowls, either that or 2 to 3 regular S2000 projectors in each housing or else there is too much empty space.

Not a direct fit. Had to cut some of the reflective surroundings to make the projectors fit. As of right now, I know there are a few who are attempting to get the same thing done. I did them on the fly so I really dont have any detailed instructions on how I did them.
