translation
I won't translate the whole text because I'm not that bored, but here's some of the info.
From the page with the photoshopped pic:
Toyota ist predicted specs:
- LxWxH (mm): 3900x1780x1550
- Engine: 1.5L 1NZ-FE
* horsepower/torque (PS/kgm): 110/14.3
- Engine: 1.8 L 2AZ-FE
* horsepower/torque: 136/17.8
The 1.8 L comes with a CVT with a 7-speed manual mode. The wider body makes it a 3-number registration in Japan, which is for larger cars (it used to be a 5-number which is for regular-sized cars... strange how it looks so little when you see an xA in the US compared to when you see an ist drive by in Japan). Predicted prices: 1.5 L model for 1.5M-1.6M yen, 1.8 L model for 1.7-1.8M yen.
From the page with the yellow vertical banner across the right:
- Wheelbase: 2540 mm
- Exhaust gas level: 4-stars
- Something is 20.0 but it's too blurry to read.
The new model to be debuted next March will be part of the Vitz family and will be based the new Vitz platform. The 1.8 L engine's from the Corolla. This article says both engines will have a CVT, but the 1.8 L will have the 7-speed manual mode. It's wider and fender sticks out more than current version. Widest in the Vitz family. There are reports of delays which could affect the scheduled March debut. Some delays in developing the export version leading to delays which could push it back to May. Although the ist started out as a competitor to the Fit, the new ist will be one class larger and more "exclusive" and will be a "compact specialty".

Why would you not want a CVT? I'm just curious -- I'm very new to cars.
My parents have a Nissan Teana with a CVT and it felt slightly slightly strange to have no discreet gear shifts. But it should be more efficient in theory, right?

It's a belt drive system that has pulleys that move together and apart to vary speeds. The belts blow without warning. My gut feeling is they're going to need to be replaced periodically like a timing belt, something else I don't want. The replacement is not going to be cheap. Saturn has already abandoned it on most of their vehicles. The main advantage for manufacturers is low cost to build, which translates to more profit.

I've worked on Milling Machines and Lathes with this system and even with Kevlar belts they will shred without warning.
Here's your gear ratio:
Think of it as bigger chainrings and sprockets on a multi-speed bicycle. Bigger on the power end means the faster you go. Smaller on the powered end means you go slower.
I will add that these tranny's don't use the same type belt as industrial machinery.

do i have to explain this again?
i said this is not real picture taken and yes it is photoshopped. and the C piller is already mentioned up there.
this was what was on the japanese mag and i just posted it.
they just guesstimate how it might look like and its usually close to a real model.
and duh if theres a real pic taken already, it should be on internet everywhere.
