I got an error4 on mine once, shut it off and it cleared up, but I just knew I was in for a trip to the dealer.... I still don't trust it.

i don't know because i have the ipod stereo, but my only guess would be burned cd's.

are you using burned cd's?
sure it may be able to read them, but at what speed?
what speed are the cd's burned at....there's a lot more to burning cd's than most people think. if the burn speed is too fast for the player, it will not play the disc.

I've had to take it in for an error 3 b4, they got me a new headunit on the same type... it's a well know issue and several people have had to deal with it. Once the warranty runs out I may switch to a 7" screen should it die again.

Well I got my car back from the dealership this afternoon. Here is the full story. In june of 06 i was getting error 3 and 4 to where my unit was inoperable. I couldnt get cds in or out or switch discs or tracks. They replaced it saying the unit had a fatal error. two months late in aug of 06 i was gettin the errors again and i took it back and they replaced it again saying it had a fatal error. so this is the third time im bringing the car back with the errors. they gave me the whole talk about different cd types. basically, there is no pattern to these errors. I play both store bought and burned cds. the unit plays them and mid track or when i go to switch, the errors come flooding in. the dealership tested this out today and told me that every cd throughout the day it was there, was working and they werent gettin any errors (go figure, it doesnt happen when you try to show someone) although the guy did see it this morning when i showed him. anyway, they told me to buy a cd cleaner and try that. seriously, no sooner did i pull out of the dealership, the errors came back, without me even touching anything. I am almost at my warranty end and I am worried about them replacing it until I am screwed without a warranty. I am so distressed, i dont know what to do about it. were there any cases where there was some kind of deal made, or would this be on a case by case basis?

thanks for the responses so far, by the way!

Do your discs have labels on them? Some players/changers have a problem with discs that have labels on them.

I haven't had this problem in a while.

A friend of mine that drives an xB says that when this happens to him he just hits the radio a bit turns the car off, hits it some more, and then he's good to go....

this coincidently has worked for me.....
