what are we supposed to check, replace, for 30k maintenance thanks

It's in the manual. Get better spark plugs, don't use the cheap ones from Toyota. Oil, filter, spark plugs, rotate tires and you're good.

Cabin filter is behind the glove box. There's a little tray you slide out.

Actually, the best spark plug for the car you can get are the cheap ones from Toyota. The dual ground prongs are used for the swirl spark ignition that the scion engine uses. It is actually one of the few engines that benefits from a multi prong plug.

just get NGK iridiums...
toyota uses delso iridiums so they should last 60k miles but my dads sparks were bad way before 60k miles...
