Default Dealer parts on backorder? Bad buying experience

First some good news (from the dealer), and then the bad news...

The good news...
You're getting your new xA tomorrow! It looks great!

The bad news...
Sure, you wanted that rear sway bar. We said it was being installed yesterday. We lied. It's on national backorder and it won't be here for 4 weeks. There are 6 other Scion parts that are on backorder too (none of which I'm getting). We'll call you when it comes in and we'll need you to drop off the car for a day to get it installed.

So, has anyone else had this problem? I'm wondering what other parts would be on backorder.
He even said that he heard that you can't even get a Scion in CA since they are all selling so well.

Try aftermarket from some of the advertisers on this website. What do you mean you "Can't even get a Scion on CA"?? Do you mean in CA as in California? I will tell you that this is not the case. Good luck with your new car--and have fun with it!!

Oooops! Corrected my typo.

Yes, he said that Scions are pretty much sold out in California, which I know isn't right. Another dealer told me that Toyota wasn't even going to _start_ manufacturing Yaris' until June.
"But I just saw one at another dealership just yesterday!" He was shocked. I guess they figure that consumers aren't all that smart or something.

Anyways, I recall that he also said that the upgraded radio with the Ipod connection was also on backorder. It's just frustrating that you can't get what you want from the dealer.
They offer you all these options and don't tell you that half the stuff isn't readily available. He said the rear sway bar was 'new' and that was why they couldn't get one right away. I don't know how new this part is.
A few things I wanted to get (and paid on the loan) or I'd never save up the money and time to get it done.
I'm already starting my list of aftermarket stuff that I can do myself.

Counting down... 3 hours to go and it's MINE!

Just remember, if you have to leave your baby at the dealer overnight, you get a loaner....

And congratulations!!!!

you know wat with all the fuss they're giving you, go buy an aftermarket sway bar, such as the Progress or Whiteline (if you can find one) and install yourself! It takes 20 mins and I even have photos and a write up if you want. Not to mention you could hit up www.trdsparks.com and he has dealer parts for cheaper than the dealers. Happy xAing!

No loaner? How cheap.

I got my car! They had me wait an extra half an hour and almost made me late to work. Grrrr!

The salesman said that the reason that the rear sway bars are unavailable is that they have been having problems with them falling off! So Toyota is looking into it and shipping when they get the problem fixed!

New day, new story.....

Just got a call from the dealership that the rear sway bar is now in. I'm scheduled to have it installed on Monday. Go figure.

In the mean time, I'm going over all the paperwork, manuals, figuring out how that first aid kit and manual are both supposed to fit into that case, and that case takes up the whole glove box BTW....
All the fun stuff of getting a new car, y'know. Now I gotta get back to admiring my car...

Not real sure what roadside emergencies the "first aid kit" will help you out of... A nasty paper cut from the manual, perhaps....

Forget letting them install it. Install it yourself.

4 bolts, not that difficult at all.

I don't like trusting others to do my work unless I personally know them. Between me and my father, we did 90% of the work on my previous vehicle, as it had been in the family since new, and while it may seem to be a pain, it gives you peace of mind to know if you tightened those bolts enough.

they might fall off because they are supposed to be re-tightened after the first drive which I'm sure a tech might over-look.

I wasn't given any details on any of the stories. But it didn't take long to figure out that I couldn't believe the guy anyway, so even if he did tell me more, what good would it do me?
Anyways, once I got the car the way I wanted it, I made sure that I didn't go back. I had to get my own inspection done on the car, since they didn't do that. They usually do here in NH. And he didn't say anything to me about any 3 free oil changes. Is that something that all Scion dealerships do, or just some of them?

Three oil changes at ANY Toyota or Scion dealership within the first 36,000 miles are pre-paid when you bought the vehicle.

You can get them done at any Toyota dealership. See the last pages of your manual.

Thanks Tomas!

RedRose: Backordered floor mats? I wonder if they had mechanical problems with those as well. Maybe they kept falling off and had to recall them!

when he said, "they are falling off", you should have said, "yeah, just on the way up here I did 2 emergency lane changes to avoid hitting them . Now tell me the real story, or tell me you don't have a clue, but don't treat me like I'm an idiot."

My dealer-ordered, dealer-overcharged floormats were "out of stock" too. I'm thinking it's something they have decided not to keep on hand.
