Grabbing 120 MP3s off the Scion site (Scion Sampler CDs)
I just got my Scion xA a few days ago and while poking around I saw that I had missed out on all the Scion Sampler CDs. I noticed they play some of them in the "Boombox" on the Scion site and I did some HTTP traffic snooping and figured out where all the MP3s are that they stream for the site.
Is anyone interested in knowing how to easily download all the MP3s they have online? I grabbed them all and it was about 120 of them. Lots of good Hip-Hop/Rap stuff. If there's interest, I'll post a quick HOWTO.
I got some interest pretty quick, so here goes:
--------------------------------------------------------
HOWTO grab the mp3s from the scion.com site:
--------------------------------------------------------
------------------
Tools needed:
------------------
1) Firefox web browser
2) DownThemAll plugin for Firefox
3) Linkification plugin for Firefox
4) the scionmp3s.txt file contained in this zipfile
------
Steps
------
1) unzip the scionmp3s.zip file you donwloaded in #4 above and you will see a file called scionmp3s.txt. Put that on your computer somewhere.
2) Drag that file from your computer into Firefox (or open the file with Firefox). With Linkification turned on (Ctrl-Shift-L), all the links will be active (clickable) links. If they are not clickable, you either don't have the Linkification plugin installed or it's not turned on
3) Now, right click on the page and choose DownThemAll. On the dialog that comes up, choose a destination directory (like c:\downloads\mp3s\scion) and in the "Additional Filters" section put *.tmp. Now click START and they will start downloading. This will take a little while depending on how fast your conenction is. It's about 250 MB of mp3s.
4) When it finishes downloading, you need to rename the .tmp files to .mp3. You could do this by hand, but it's much easier to do it with one simple DOS command. Open a command prompt (DOS prompt) in the directory you downloaded the files to (c:\downloads\mp3) and issue this single command to rename them all at once:
ren *.tmp *.mp3
--------------------------------------------------------
Now you have a bunch of MP3s. Most of them have id3 tags you can use to sort/rename them with some external MP3 tool (I use The Godfather - http://users.forthnet.gr/the/jtclipper/ , but any will work).
If you're curious how I did this, how I figured it out, or how to do something similar on other sites (and it works on lots of sites), read the article I wrote a while back entitled How to Find And Download Hidden Music From Websites
ENJOY! Hopefully that isn't too difficult to do for everyone. Feel free to ask questions and I'll help you out.

haha, nice find. I missed out on the CD sampler too but listened to my friend's CD that he got. It's not the best music I've heard but its ok. I'll download the mp3s for fun tho. Props for digging through the html

I always thought each of their CD's had a couple of decent songs on it, don't know that I would want them all though.
Either way that's pretty cool. Can't really say anything is illegal, they were from free givaways anyway.

Nice... thanks!
And congrats on getting a soon-to-be-extinct xA! One thing though... the very worst vogon poetry is extremely accurate... so I'd recommend fixing your description of the car's color - it's Indigo Ink Pearl... like mine!

I got the albums I wanted by luck asking a Scion sales rep if he happened to have any. He told me to leave a number to call back and later on in the day gave me the good news. He found Sampler 7 and 8(the samplers I asked for) laying in his desk. This is the same rep who I bought my tC from months later. It's kinda hit or miss finding the samplers at the local dealership. All I wanted was 7 and 8 and am happy with those and are my favorites of the collection.
