While it is possible to install an AUX in an 04 xA, it's easier just to go buy an aftermarket head unit. The reason for this is that the 04 were made before scion started putting AUX ports in there cars, so if you wanted a scion head unit with AUX you would need to buy an 06 or 07 head unit with the AUX feature. But, thats only half battle because the cable that plugs into the back of the HU and runs down to the center console to an AUX plug is not present in the 04 xA models. So if you want the scion AUX, you'll need 1 head unite, 1 cable that runs down to the center console, and 1 AUX plug. Knowing the dealer, they would probably charge a small fortune to have this done.

But if you go aftermarket, you only need to buy a new head unite with an AUX on the front.
If you do decide to go aftermarket, might I suggest getting this...

Its got an AUX port, is double-din size so it would fit perfectly in our cars, and its black so it blends in with the interior. Anyways, hope this helps.

Indeed, double din head units are x2 the size of your average size head unit. Our stock units are double din so if you replace it with a single din then you'll have a small gap(but they make covers for it so it doesn't look bad). But both single and double din units work in our cars so which ever you prefer.

You can go the route mentioned or get an IPOD2Go unit (I think that's the name) and wire it to the back of the existing stereo.

My 04 works perfectly with that. The plug snaps into the CD-changer socket and then you run the wire down through the dash to the little bin in front of the cup holder. It even charges the iPod.
