Default I'm considering an xD, any opinions?

Alright, I know you're all probably thinking this should go in the xD thread. But I'm an xA driver looking for the opinions of other xA drivers so I'm posting here.

Something has come up and now a family member of mine is in need of a car, and who's car do they want? mine. But its ok, because as much as I love the xA, I'm ready for something new. I've looked at the 09 corolla and the 08 accord, but they're all just a tad expensive once you add the basics(power windows/locks). So now I'm considering an xD.

Now I know that I was one of the first to jump on the whole "I don't like the xD" bandwagon, but its looks have grown on me. Plus I can't ignore all the standard stuff it comes with while being cheaper than most other cars. So my question to all of you is, what cars would you consider buying given my situation? Is the xD a good deal in your opinion? Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

the xD comes with colder a/c, bigger engine, smaller gas tank, fair fuel economy

I think Im going to stay with the scion family even if I out grow my xA in a few years. I like the quality, affordablity and pure pricing of the cars as well as the support of the scion community as a whole. I haven't found that in any other car I've had before.

I would check with the xd people, but I haven't heard anything negative from them yet myself. Also you have a chance to get an RS1 xd.

I did see that the xD comes with a bigger engine, more hp is always a good thing :D I also hear that it has a dual VVT-I engine, not really sure what that is but I hear that even the new corolla doesn't have it. I also agree with staying with Scion, they seem to have a lot of stuff that you just can't get anywhere else. I also like knowing my car has Toyota quality even though its a cheap car. Oh and scions are still made in japan right?

Alright, well it looks like my next car will be an xD. Now I'll just have to play the waiting game.

Anyone know if the 09 xD is coming out soon? Toyota already has out their 09's so I figure that Scion can't be too far behind. I cant imagin the xD changing too drastically from one year to the next(kinda like the xA) but it would be cool to get an 09. Or maybe they'll replace it with the rumored xR.

Toy. has the dual vvt-i in the 1.8L and the 3.5L V6 engines .... will eventually come to other engines. Dual vvt-i is vvt for the intake and exhaust valving. VVT-i is strickly vvt for the intake valves only.

I'd recommend for under $20K
*Impreza RS- AWD, 2.5L, takes 87 octane, at 170 hp , and will be slightly less mpg then the xD, not by much 2-4 mpg. For the extra $2-3K for this rig, IMO its a serious jump up in overall car/performance , still made in Japan

*Possibly the next gen tC ... but not so sure when that will be out, and not so sure what kind of timeline your thinking of buying this new car.

*What about a 1st Gen xB ? You'll still get great mpg out of the xB , plus they are kinda considered classics now, like the xA

*Corolla could be good ..... and I'm fairly certain that the new model 2009 comes in a 1.8L (less money) or the 2.4L.

*New Matrix ?? Could be good , but again more money then a xD.

Ya know I hadn't even thought about a subaru, I'm gonna have to look into that. I have given serious thought to getting an original xB, but that would mean buying it used and I don't feel like dealing with any trouble that might bring. (I've had bad experiences with used cars, besides, I love that new car smell) As far as price goes, the corolla is my only really alternative. I priced one at ~$16,400 before tax. I would need the car sometime before the end of august, that would put the current xD at around a year old. I'm thinking I'll just wait till the last possible moment in case scion decides release an 09 xD.

I just saw the new '09 Corolla commercial 3 times in about a 1 hour time span on TV just now. The rear end looks very-very similar, new front end. The dual vvt-i in the 1.8L should be sweet ..... but I'm not so sure that would be enough for me to go out and purchase a new Rolla. Its been like 6 years since the last rolla came out(2003?).

I've liked what Toyota has done w/ the Scion line(for the most part) for the last 4+ years, and Toyota Trucks have always been fun to drive + solid. But IMO there have been some slackin when it comes down to the Toyota line of cars. When the MR-Spyder died in 2005 that was sad to see... sweet car. The new Supra should be out by the very end of '08- or by early '09 from what I've heard ... so that will be a good thing, for various reasons. It'll be interesting to see what power plants Toy. gives it... the 3.5L V6 , and/or the 4.7L V8- possibly .... maybe the 4L V6 ? Either way, from what I've heard, is that it will debut as a low $40K car- mildly equiped ..... and go up to low $50K fully equiped(supercharged??).

I'm still trying to figure out the part about how someone else wants/needs a car means you must give yours up. Do YOU not own/paying for it?

Well, its for my sis for when she moves out of state. I may have overstated things in my first post, I don't have to give up my xA but I'm willing to because I'd like an xD and she wants an xA. And at the risk of sounding like a spoiled kid, it was my parents that paid for the xA and will probably pay for the xD. It's not that I'm not willing to pay for my own car, but I can only do so much being a full time student.

I only got sit one briefly, but I think the rears seats were just as big if not bigger. I'll probably test drive an xD when spring break comes. Also, I saw an BSP xD yesterday with toyota ist bandges, was the first one I'd seen in my area.
