Default No dealer installed OEM Cruise Control available?

I would like to have Cruise Control on my 06 xA Scion. A local Phoenix Scion dealer tells me Scion does not have a OEM CC unit, and that it would have to be an aftermarket system. Is that true? If I install an aftermarket system will it affect my warranty, including extended Platinum?

I don't know about the Platnium - but my dealer told me that it wouldn't affect my standard warranty. I plan on getting into more detail with him about this when I call on Monday to get my VIN as it was an option I chose.

In some regions you can order cruise control which will be installed at the port or by the dealer. However, it really isn't an OEM unit. It is made by a company called Rostra. It is basically a Scion option but it is really made by Rostra.

I have the Rostra unit. It was installed at the S.E. Toyota Distributers POE in Jacksonville, Florida when my xA arrived on our shores. It was a $350.00 option. It is covered under the 36mo/36,000mile warranty. I recommend it if you do alot of interstate type driving, as it saves me alot of leg fatigue, and can increase mpg (due to maintaining a steady speed).

I have the Rostra unit as well, you can tell it's not OEM, cause pretty much all Toyota's have the same ergonomical CC wand that moves up and down. This one is stationary and very elementary.
Good luck,
Dan

Hi Everyone, I'm new here!!!

While reading through this thread, I just want to say that I think that speed control, if the same as cruise control, do come preinstalled in xA.

The reason I said that was because one xA I was looking at, has this device as one of the accessories included in a new xA.

There is a Speed Control (Cruise Control) option for $275 in some regions. However, it is actually a Rostra unit. You can call it an OEM option, but it is really more like an aftermarket option.

The Rostra is instaled either at the port or by some dealers. It is region dependent. You can buy the unit for about $200 from ALLSCION.com and install it yourself in about 2 hours if you are mechanically inclined. They can also help you find a shop that will do the install for you. It is a great little unit. By far one of the best I have ever had, including factor units.

OK, bottom line here? My dealer will put this on my new Xa for $500. Sounds like a rip to me. And they're trying to tell me that if I buy it and install it myself, that I *might* void the warranty. Does someone here know for sure on the warranty issue?

Should I go into my dealer and say that other dealers will do it for $275? Hell, I'll make a road trip to save a couple hundred $$$!!!

Thanks.

See my post above. You can do it yourself or a shop can do it for you. As for the warranty, read this:https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=55338

Thanks very much for helping out a new xA owner. I appreciate it.

Now I just have to figure out who can install for me. I'm not paying the dealer $325 to install it! Like I said, I'd make a road trip.

That same Rostra CC is used in all xA and xB model years.

Here's a copy of the installation manual for the Rostra CC:
250-1755 Rostra Cruise 2004-06 xA xB

Tomas, good find. I got to do the 06 wiring with the old directions. It was not as much fun as one might imagine.

ScionZona, Rostra will direct you to a shop to install. Probably much cheaper than the Toyota dealer.

That's why I keep things like that on my server, Aaron.
