please, help if you can...young kids and this car...

the xA is a fine car. It does not exceed in hardly any categories. Nor does it fail in any categories.
4 stars all around is safe enough for me, however, you need to take in account the crash rating is rated for a same size vehicle. i.e. if another xA hit the xA it would have a 4 star, if a semi hit the xA, goodbye xA..
And the styling is unique beyond anything else. We have all seen the "crossover" vehicles and they all look BAD... bad as in horribly crappy.

no, no mods for me. i wanted something that would be safe for her, but at the same time i can still look like a cool (almost) 22 yr. old. besides, mods are expensive, and extra cash is something that goes out the window when you become a parent. i did however look at those little led lights for the rims, i might consider some pink ones somewhere down the road, i think those are kinda cute.
haha, two posts above...yeah, my dad is an in state truck driver and a lady driving a benz hit him going 80mph about a week ago, she hit him at just the right angle that it didn't lop her head off, but she was high as a kite and ran away (literaly on foot ran) from the scene, lol.

That was another thing I didn't like about the XD, I really like the gauges in the center. I like to drive with my hand on the top of the wheel and my arm doesn't block the view to the gauges. Also the steering wheel isn't in the way of the gauges. You get used to it real quick, or at least I did. The new honda Civic's have the speedo on a seperate cluster that is up close to the windshield and achieves the same effect. They are both great.
I'm 6'1" tall but fit into the XA real well (I'm pretty gumbyish). I don't think I'll have any problems getting what I need into the car. I can put the baby in one side and fold the other seat down for more storage room.

ha! your quote, i laughed at it before, cause i only quickly read it...oh it's great! ha! i can't get over it now...i don't know if i'm giggling so hard because i love that movie so much or if it's for my lack of sleep...ah, haha. anyways, moving on..
really? i got use to it on the test drive, however i don't know how i'm going to do in the long run. i drive like you do, however i'm not tall enough that i have to look down at it, lol, usually the guage and i see eye to eye.
though, the 60/40 thing... if you have to have more storage then that means that the baby goes behind the driver, which for my short little arms i can't quite reach behind there or see her, so, that's not so great. they should've thought about that one. but, then again, this car isn't geared towards moms. if you're a mom, vans and suvs are shoved down your throat. that's all well and good if you're not on a budget. eh, i suppose i'll get me a soccer mom minivan once i find me a rich husband to pay for it all ;), jk jk.

Kids...
The xA is great !! It is kind of small to have for a child that young. I have had an xA for about a week, but I do know one thing, it is a bit smaller than what I had. I had a Toyota Matrix. If you have a baby, you might want to consider one of those. The xA, on the OTHER HAND, is awesome to drive and handles very well. I do believe when i did all of the research on it it did have a 4 star crash test rating. All Toyota vehicles have the side-crash impact bars that protect during side impact and have the front airbags for front impact. The xA, I believe, has roll bar's in the top to protect against roll overs as well. I will always stick with a toyota because I saw how a little (and I mean little) 1993 Corolla faired in a freeway accident near Houston. Vehicle was clipped on the rear and was sent soring into a set of trees. Person (my mom) was not even hurt at all, but the car was totaled. Just a little insight, from a person who did a little research on size, as well as crash test ratings too. Good luck on your purchase... if you do get an xA you will love it!

I vote no on this one. The xA is not a family car.
Crash ratings are granted relative to other cars in the same class. A four star crash rating for a subcompact doesn't mean it's safer than a three star rating for a minivan.
The xA also has a very bumpy ride. Kids sleep a lot in cars. I would hate to sleep in the xA even during a short trip.

The xA makes a great family car for a family on a budget. So far, it appears to be reliable (so not alot of time and money spent on repairs). It has 4 doors so it is easy to fit four people. It gets good gas mileage (so you don't spend alot on gas).
It's too bad more families don't buy xA's and smaller cars and instead clog the roads up with massive SUVs and pickups.
hnefrdo does have a point about kids liking to sleep in cars. The xA isn't extremely bumpy, but it isn't going to be as easy for a kid to sleep in as a large sedan or minivan.
Look at all of the cars you can afford and compare them. Compare them (taking into account cost of ownership) and pick whatever works best for you and your kid.

He said it was fun because the car made it seem fast, but it was still too bumpy. The biggest thing for kids is comfort and I think you should get a car that suits that. Even the VW Rabbit is safer than the xA.
