Default Radio random'y changes stations?

Greetings,

I have a 2006 xA with about 35,000 miles. The radio (original) will sometimes adjust to a random station. Sometimes it will happen when I drive over something bumpy, and sometimes it will just happen. This will usually occur once or twice every day. Has anyone else had this happen with their Scion?

Mine does it also, but only during the cold season. When it's warm out it works fine.....very weird.

DPK99, there is a TSB on that problem and you only have about 1000 miles left to get it fixed for free!!!

(You may have to take a printout of the TSB in to the dealer if they don't know what you are talking about.)

Good luck!

Thanks. Here is the info from your link:

"This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is
in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle’s
in-service date
."

What is the vehicles in-service date? Is that different from the purchase date?

What he said... in-service = date of delivery to customer.

Hope you squeeze in under that. If not, give it a try anyway. Depending on dealer they might be willing to stretch it.

(If not, I'm sure with all the folks who changed out the OEM radio for a new head unit there are some out there just siting on a shelf somewhere if you ask. The one I got to replace the OEM unit in my box was a 'black dot' unit from an 07 tC.)

The factory radio sucks, enough said. Scion gave pioneer a bad name, if pioneer even is the actual manufacture. My first was replaced under warranty because it wouldn't "seek". It would seemingly pick out random stations not the strongest signal. Now the awesome replacement will turn off and eject the CD in it every now and then when you push any button. It's done that about three times this month so far.

If you end up replacing it with your own money, do yourself a favor and get an aftermarket one. I believe the awesome factory one cost somewhere close to $300, you can get an in dash DVD/CD/MP3 for that price.

I've had three OEM Scion radios - one first gen, two second gen - and ALL of them have performed perfectly. No failures, no problems. YMMV

If u use that TSB printout take it to a reputable dealership that will actually warrant it. The Service guy at my Stealership threw a ____ fit when I showed him the TSB.....I guess it was his time of the month.

If the dealership does not comply with the TSB, and if you are still in the specified period (time/miles), CALL SCION CORPORATE and let them know. 1 866 707 2466

Just curious, if yours didn't have any problems... why did you have 3?

2005 xB came with a Gen 1 radio (volume buttons).

When the Gen 2 (volume ****) came out I wanted it 'cause I don't like push-button volume controls.

I eventually got a Gen 2 from a 2007 tC, and that's what is in the box now.

THe other OEM radio was the Gen 2 that came with the 2006.5 xA.

(The original Gen 1 radio is now in a 2006.5 xB and doing just fine...)

I had the same issue, and the CD would jump 1 track. This usually happened in cold weather, and only once duirng a trip. Ndew radio fixed the problem.
