Default Remote keyless entry

I have an 06 Xa that did not come with remote keyless entry. Anyone have any experience with retrofitting it? Is it something I could do myself?

Thanks,
Elliott

I don't know about retrofitting the OEM system. But when I bought my '05 xA, my first stop after leaving the dealership was at a local stereo shop. I had a basic aftermarket remote keyless entry unit installed for around $110. It works perfectly and it has a "lifetime" warranty through the shop.

i went with the factory one for $375. i like it very much and im proud of my xA and wanted the alarm k/e remote to say Scon on it. plus it was plug in play and i didnt want someone hacking on my wiring harness. just my 2 cents.

I also have an '06 xA. I purchased my Scion RKE afterwards from scionpartspeople.com for approx. $252 & put it in myself. An afternoon's work in the driveway & everything went fine. Some good reference material on this site helped me program it afterwards too.

For what it's worth, nobody did any "hacking" on my wiring either. They had all the correct adapter plugs so it was plug-n-play also. Granted, my remote doesn't have "Scion" on it. But I saved $265 so I'm ok with that.

Appreciate everyone's reply. Sounds like what I want to do is possible. Just need to decide whether to go with the dealer or aftermarket.

Thanks,
Elliott

Hi guys, I have a similar question.

I just got my keyless entry/alarm and it is the stock Scion kind (RS3200). It says it comes with instructions, but I would like to know if anyone knows of other instructions from someone else who has installed it themselves.

Would it also void warranty if I do it myself?

I could also go to the dealer to have it installed, but I don't want to pay more than I have to. Anyone know how much it costs?

I have seen price differences on here and it seems it might vary from dealer to dealer so i would just give them a call and ask. The only way it would void the warranty is if Toyota can prove that that item caused your car to fail.

Ive been on the fence about buying the toyota rke kit to add myself. It looks fairly easy, just plug in the connectors across the whole front of the car. Then something with a diode on the drivers cawling. Lastly, I can not follow directions and am afraid I will screw up arming the system. I do not know about you guys, but I can not follow directions.

one thing i like about the factory system is that if i dis arm it and go oh wait i want to go over there for 10 min's it rearms its self after 1 minute. that is reliability. if you have to look at budget. i could offord it and im pleased.

I've got some generic unit from eBay for around $30 shipped, which I installed myself last year. So far so good. However, I was in a hurry to install, and it has a couple of issues. Firstly, it opens all the doors, but I intend it to open only the driver door. Secondly, it requires double click to open them. In return, it is quiet and doesn't disturb any one when I park the car.

I went to a local place here in Sacramento (Pacific Audio) and bought an Audiovox Premier keyless entry/car alarm system for $130 installed. I'm very happy with it.

Default Circuit City

I had a remote start installed at Circuit City. They made it seamless with the Lojack already installed.

**Be aware that the range might be diminished with some aftermarket alarm and starter options.

Just installed my keyless entry kit on my 06. It was really simple, and took me 4 hours (could have been faster though) to do both the keyless entry and the oem fog lights.

Best part: both were free from scion superhighway

I still have another keyless entry kit if someone knows someone who wants to buy it. Just PM me.

He is selling the 06 xA RS3200 (stock) keyless entry and alarm set for $100 bucks.

I bought one from him and installed it myself/with boyfriend. It took about 2.5 hrs.
