Default Seems like scion is cutting a lot of corners.

I have and '03 xA and I've had soooo many problems with it. With the paint, as most of you already know, chips hella easily, so I won't go into that, but my biggest problem is with the stereo. I got the 6 disk changer and it was working fine for about a year and a half, but after that, it started crapping out on me. It kept giving me "Error 3" and "Error 4" every 4 or 5 CDs it went through, and it was ____ing me off, so I went to the dealership, and they replaced it the next week. That was in Oct. 05, now my replacement is acting up too, worse than the first one, and it hasn't even been as long. Yesterday, it said "Error 4" on me three times, and today I can't do anything about it, it's been saying "Error 4" all day no matter what I did. It's ____ing me off the way Scion cuts corners like this.

^^^ thats real helpfull

unfortunatly toyota does take shortcuts to lower the price of the car. a lot of the shortcuts are things people that modify cars change anyway, like the stereo and paint and such. they are good cars for the money, if you continue to have problems with the headunit, id say buy a decent aftermarket one or have them swap it out again :-\

I haven't had a problem with my 6-disc changer. I've had it for nearly two years now. Have you checked in the manual to see what those errors are?! And what's up with everyone's paint problems?! Mine seems like normal wear and tear for a two-year old car.

My paint has chipped from the first few months. I try to stay away from big trucks on the road now.

Anyway,

Pioneer makes the head unit, not Scion.... But in any case, if it's still under warranty you can try to replace it again. Otherwise you should look into an aftermarket deck. Could it be the quality of CDs you use?

I had a problem with my cd player. It didnt like burned cds when its really cold out like under about 15. Worked fine with real cds and on everything once it warmed up. Its could just crappy cds giving you a problem.

I have cd-r's and originals, and I take really good care of all my stuff. My cd's aren't scratched, and I've only had the replacement for 4 months, that's no where near the amount of time it should take for wear and tear, epecially the way I take care of it.

meh mine got replaced after a year or so too, I've had my replacement working fine for a couple of months now. I'm probably going to end up replacing it with a dvd and screen in the headunit. As for the paint.. dont really worry about it seeing as I decided to slap on some over it and add 5 layers of clearcoat.

Go with an Eclipse head unit. Most of them work with the steering wheel controls right out of the box.

Many others have adapters for this too. It's just a standard thing on most Eclipse units.

I believe the CD2000 is the lowest priced one. We sell them as upgrades on new Scions here in Phoenix.

There's an iPod harness and a Sirius upgrade available too.

(not to mention the pre-outs!!!!)

The Eclipse AVN radios use a standard Toyota plug and also work with the factory SWC no extra parts needed but cost some coin .Any other radio will fit fine but you will need a Kit and Harness to wire them in.If you want better sound get new speakers first they are weakest link even in the premium pioneer system, then get a new deck with pre outs to add amps and subs. As for the 6disc in-dash ,those decks have many problems, even many of the aftermarket ones I have seen go bad in a very short time my sugestion is get a new deck.Thats why the new Scions are a single disc only.
