is the stereo covered under warranty?
Hey everyone, I have am 05 scion xa with 28k miles. Recently my speakers have been crackling pretty bad like some kind of electrical interference. On top of that, this morning, I put a CD in and it won't play the CD, it won't let me eject the CD. It just keeps blinking "cd in" at the top. This is the second time this has happened, last time the cd popped out a day later on its own.
I have to go to the dealer as soon as they get a part in that they ordered last week to fix my CEL and I was wondering if I should mention the stereo, I don't want them to immediately try to sell me a new unit if its not under warranty.
Thanks!

It should be under warranty. When did you purchase the vehicle. It is included in the 3/36. My wife, in a GM car she had, had to have hers replaced 4 times. Each new time added a 1 yr, 12k warranty to just the stereo. I have had one replaced under warranty in a Toyota before. I would mention it.

That's good news.
Thanks for the tip, I'll mention it.
Man, I feel like a total jerk to these guys, first the CEL, now the stereo and I'm also going to talk to them about my AC which is making a grinding noise everytime I turn it off.
I guess I shouldn't feel bad though, not my fault, I just want to get it all fixed before my warranty runs out.
I'm getting a bit impatient though, they ordered my idle air control motor tuesday and its still not in, I'm tired of looking at that ugly CEL.
Thanks again.

Well I took it to the dealer yesterday. They just called me today and said the car is ready. They replaced the idle air control unit and cleaned out the AC breather (?) he said it was cloged and causing it to sieze up. He said they took the head unit off and check the wires and all the grounds and couldn't find anything wrong, but he said the can't hear the popping speakers.
I'm going up there at 4 o'clock to pick it up and see for myself if the popping is gone. If its not I'm hoping I don't get a "well, we can't figure it out so don't worry about it, its normal" answer -_-

I'm using past tense because I just picked the car up from the dealer and the noise isn't there any more. Man what a difference. Especially with my idle. I always thought it was normal for my airbox to shake violently and my windshield wipers to vibrate when I was running the car under near or full load. Before, I'd start it up and it fly up to 200 rpms before droping down and then whenever the fan kicked on, or the ac was turned on, the idle would bog down and act really twitcy. Now it hovers around 650 constantly and its super smooth.
They looked at the AC too, they said the blower assy was full of debris and it was causing it to seize up or something, they cleaned it out. It doesn't make as loud of a grinding noise when I turn the AC off anymore, but the noise is still there :/
I may take it back up some time, right now I'm just happy to have a smooth idling, properly running car without an ugly CEL

CD/MP3 player issue
I had a related issue early on with my stock radio.
When I recorded an MP3-format CD and tried to play it, the unit would seize up and not play.
I found the reason - from the dealer and YES, under warranty - was that early CD players wouldn't work with disks burned at 16X or above. Seriously.
I had burned my MP3 CD at 52X and it made the player all wonky.
This happened the first week and all they did was swap out the radio. It's been fine since then, but I suspect the same thing would happen if I tried a high-speed burned disk again. And I'm well out of warranty now.
