Stop using fuel injection cleaning or going to jiffy lube?
http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/lo...hservices.html
I saw this article on Digg. It made me think, should i not use the bottle fuel injection cleaner i get from a kragen or autozone? Or should i just avoid getting the service done if i were to go to jiffy lube. I ask this because I would deny getting it from toyota and just pick up a bottle of cleaner. I would think cheaper to do it that way. Seeing that the chemical could actually harm than fix, I would like to know more. Is different chemicals involve? Is the bottle actually better than to do what jiffy lube does? Also, flushing bad too? Only go to toyota for everything?

yuo never really want to get any autozone cleaner...go to Pep Boys and pick up a bottle of Techron (same stuff thats in chevron's gas). i say go to pep boys because they carry it and sell it cheaper than chevron sells it. its the same stuff that chevron sells...not some cheap knock off. so look for that. after reading the article and looking at some of the pictures it really makes no sense what hes doing...
you pour the injection cleaner into your fuel tank when you have about 1/3 of a tank left. then you drive until your car is JUST about on fumes, and refill to full. that way, the fuel injection cleaner (techron in this case) is directly fed to the injectors...idk why that guys messed with the engine bay...but thats how you do it. i strongly suggest only using techron. its expensive at the chevron stations, and cheaper at the pep boys. if you dont have a pep boys unfortuantely youll have to pay full price for the stuff...but its worth it because it works
and yes it is a good idea to do this, but how many miles do you have on your car? it certainly wont HURT your car, but you might not need it, and could end up saving the money. from what i understand is you can use it between 40-60k miles just to be safe...every 30 is a bit sketchy because your injectors should last longer than that. if not then theres something else thats causing the problem
hope this all helped!

well i was just wondering. It said that the cleaner would break up the sludge, but that it would get caught up in the engine. Or a read wrong. I'm not a car literate, so i ask these question to make sure i'm running things fine. i have 60k+. I usually go to the dealership to get my car maintenance done (usually just oil change). I do use Techron cleaner on the side, since it's the only cheap way to do certain cleanings. But this has given me insight to what not to do, or at least go to a Jiffy Lube.

FI cleaner
Use about 4 oz. of "SEAFOAM" with every 3rd fillup, keeps the system cleaned up. I got this info from the BMW motorcycle web site, as a fix to surging and moisture on the newer "R" bikes. Helped my bike run better, so started putting in the XA on a regular basis.
