what to do first....power or suspension

Hotchkis bars are deffinately in the mix for the future. For springs, well I am trying to find a good spring for the best price possible. I turned away from the trd's cuz they don't give a low enough drop that I am looking for, next in line as far as price goes are the tein s techs. But I have been reading that they give a very rough ride, if anyone can post up their experiences with these that would be appreciated. Also I am going to swap my front control arm bushings with energysuspension pieces to try and elimenate a knock I have while going over slight bumps. Thought it was the motor mounts but it wasn't. Havnt really had too much thought into brakes just yet, will get there eventually.

Well, I've been selling some parts I've had laying around and turning it around and buying parts with it for the xa and something else just came through, so getting ready to buy some tein s.techs to go along with the trd struts.

About the exhaust, it is loud on the highway. After a awhile it will either be something that will annoy you or you will just tune it out. For me I just tune it out, but it took a while to be able to tune it out.
And cai sounds nice, Did you end up picking up a used one or was it new? Im looking for one as well, but im concerned about gulping up some water, where I am in college, it rains and snows alot

Tein's odered :D. I think I can deal with the exhaust. I got the k&n typhoon on ebay new for 160ish shipped. Best price by far. When installed it sits down behind the driver side foglight, so it shouldn't get too wet behind there. Next time you drive in wet conditions just crawl under the car and look behind the bumper where the fog light it is and see if its soaked in there and that should give you an idea how wet it will get. Also the filter comes with an outer water repellant net thing. Its still breathes really well but it repelles water, not water proof lol. It looks like this persay:
......__
<--/
Where the bottom arrow is the filter, and the top mounts to the throttle body, so I would worry too much about water being sucked into the engine.

my 2 cents....
hey man, if you are looking for power there are only a few things that add power. the CAI will add about 4hp. the exhaust will probably remove that hp or add a wopping zero hp, but adds noise. the strup or whatever header you can find will give you the most gains of any of the i/h/e options. a blitz sc will give you about 25 - 30hp. and a good quality custom turbo setup will vary between 40 & 60 hp. both the last two options are a couple to several thousand dollar items.
best choices for power adders for our cars are headers and intake. the exhaust is a waste of money, unless you like noise or get boosted.
If I could do it over, I would go for intake & header first (power & mileage). then go for stance. if you want to elaborate more and go for body kit and sick wheels then that is up to your tastes. the best exhaust option would be to keep it stock and find a muffler shop or welder that can remove your stock 1in tip and put something a slight bit larger (about 2 in like the Matrix has) just for show that you are not exactly riding stock anymore.
oh and when you get a chance, get the Uber grounding kit. just search for it and see what I'm talking about.
there are no real performance chips out there, so dont get sucked in to that lie. this motor is orginally from an echo and passed on to a yaris, there is no power there without boosting the motor.

Ya I have realized that. I like my CAI, but I am going to go the suspension route until fall. After that time ill do a full exhaust, well header and axle back. I don't want to do a FI setup being that this engine is not meant to be boosted and I want it to stay with us for as long as possible. Boosting an engine that is not meant for it will destroy it fairly quickly even under moderate boost, but then why spend a large chunck on something you can barely feel just to save some life in your engine. I'm not looking to make this car a hot rod and run with STI's, just want it to look good and sound good with a lil more go.
That sucks to hear that there are no off shelf tuning options, that the key to power potential.
Thanks for your insight

pick up an aem bypass filter. $50 is great insurance, as well as being able to have the performance benefit of a CAI.
And Taman could you post a pic of the CAI, Id like to see how it looks with your set up

hey everyone, its been a minute but here are some updates. just bought poly rear trailing arm bushing to go with the front poly control arm bushing and front poly sway bar bushings. I will be doing those very shortly. also just purchased Speed Daddy header off ebay for something like 70 shipped. purchased that brand before for another car with success so figured why not. i am getting ready to start my next semester of college as a full time auto's student so i will have access to shop lifts and tools to do all this work which will be awesome. also finished off the suspension purchase's so far with new strut mounts and rear shock mounts. i have a lot to do but can't wait to do it.
hmc-sorry i never got around to posting up a pick of my CAI, if you are still interested i would be happy to do it.
