WOW i just gor 38MPG in SoCal. It's about 50/50 city driving/freeway in between LA and OC (meaning a lot of traffic everywhere).
I love this little car (its the wifes). My Mazda 5 only gets me around 25 mpg if im lucky

I varied from 31 mpg when I drove like i stole it from a series of toll gates, letting it idle while I ate and waited through a drive through. Twice now Ive hit over 40 mpg. Lowering it really helped to hit 40 or more back to back.

In the last few weeks, I've been right about 40-42 average. Just a week ago, I put my stock wheel/tire on (the 185's) ..... so that figure should be more like 41-44 average .. at least coming up, plus the switch off from winter gas formula. Not to mention dialing in my special juice coctail formula I add to every full tank of gas.

The next major step on my list of things to do, to get better mpg, is I'm working on aquiring two more light weight 15" alloys (forged more then likely), so I can greatly reduce my rotational weight of my wheels. At the same time, I'll probably be going with a 195/55-15 , V-rated tire ... something good, Toyo , Yoko S-drive ...

I dont know Adam, you can always just accelerate slower. THe area I live in now, the culture is to go 45mph regardless of the posted speed limit and reducing your speed does the best at increasing fuel economy. I just had to break my habit or exiting on ramps at 55 and crusing at 75.

I do accelerate fairly slow. I tack it to 2500 rpm's every time, and shift as quickly through the gears as I can. The 42-47 mph range in 4th gear does do wonders for fuel economy, for sure.

When I hit the 25K mile mark, with all synthetics in , and new Iridium spark plugs in ... that will probably be the bench mark of what gas milage I will continue with- and by that time I'll have my 15" super light weight alloys on as well

26mpg on 87 octane, 27.5-28.5 mpg on 93 octane - 05 auto, stock w/17" rims & 215mm wide tires, although it only gets about 0.5 - 1mpg better with the stockers on. 65% highway (hilly, avg 70-75mph), 35% city. Best I ever got was 30.5 on a 100% highway trip with 92 octane. This thing hates 10% ethanol, hills, and me driving.

When I had the 05 xB, the story was the same.

The 08 xB, though, seems to be a lot less affected by our gas/driving habits. It consistently gets 23-24mpg on 87 octane, and that's what it should be getting. Can't wait to see how it does on a 100% highway trip.

I never thought it was really possible after reading some really high MPG figures on here but my last commute tank 90% hwy & 10% rural/city gave me 42.9mpg. I normally get about 38.8 but I really watched my driving for a week and able push it up by about 10%.

Needless to say I'm probably going to get into a Vanpool that started up recently. My monthly commute cost will drop from about $160/month in the xA to $60/month in the van. I really hate to do because I love driving my xA to and from work, sort of my time alone with my music. Sad because when I bought the xA it cost less than $80/month to drive to work.

Wow, sorry to hear that. I spend about 80 a month in gas, less than 300 miles a week. It takes a lot of work to get in the upper 40s. Infact I hit 46 by mistake just riding around the interstate on cruse listening to the radio after my favorite quit.

Needless to say, since Ive lowered my car with prosports and even with my new commute I am still able to hit 41. Last tank 287 miles by almost 7 gallons.

29 mpg, more than half stop and go. HUGE jump from the 15 mpg for the same type of driving in my truck.

If I drive like a good boy then I can hit 38 to 40 MPG's...

If I'm feeling impatient that week then I avg around 30 to 34 MPG's...

Daily commute is 30 something odd miles each way... 90% of it highway mileage but a lot of it is stop & go traffic...

Fixing to throw some 18's on it in the next few weeks... Wondering how it's going to affect my MPG's...

It will definitly decrease your mpg , even if you put on some super light weight TE37's @ about $600 per wheel , etc. Tire weight steadily increases from a 15" @ approx. 18lbs, 16" @ 22lbs ... etc ... etc. The biggest I'd recommend going is 16", that wont drastically throw off your mpg too much. With a 16" wheel, the lowest width tire you can get is a 205 , which is still fairly phat, and will grip like a glove. As opposed to a 15" wheel, you can get a 185 width tire.. and really optimise the daily commute cost $$, keep the $ in your pocket type mentality. For example, if you get 35 average out of a 16" wheel, you'll get about 38 average out of a 15" wheel/tire(of same make wheel tire). If the extra 3 (possibly more) mpg is worth going to a 15" wheel .... then go for it (ex. extra 3 mpg X 12 gallon tank = 36 extra miles traveled = 1 gallon of gas = $4 per gallon savings

Plus, given you do a lot of HWY driving, a lighter wheel/tire is best. Now , if you were 70+% driving around town mainly .... then going with , say a 17" wheel wont be too.. too bad, but still not optimal. Not to mention, steping up to a 18" tire size, tires start costing some good coin at that point. 15"-17" tires can be had for a fair dollar now a days. Just something to think about, FYI.

How many miles do you guys get before it goes empty btw? Like my friend's Yaris, she gets 300miles on her car before she has to fill it up again.

Not to worried about the whole tire price cuz I got tha hook up, I'm just more worried about the MPG loss... Hoping it'll be no more then 2 to 3 MPG's...

One of the main reasons I'm going 18's is so I can keep my clearance with a Tanabe DF210 drop... Lotz of road hazards on my daily commute in Dallas... I don't want to drop any less then 1.5 because I'll have nasty gap...

If I avg around 36 to 38 MPG's, and the xA tank is about what 11/12 gallon? It's usually around 400 mi...

I fill up when it gets 1/4 left as its bad to run em dry. First you risk sucking trash into the system, second the fuel is also used to keel the fuel pump cool. I drive seems about 287-289 miles a week and fill up every Thursday of about 7 gallons.

I live in Richmond, VA if anyone is near and wants to ride with me to see how I drive or prehaps drive their car to see if technique pays more than setup.

I also am working on getting some video clips of me driving. Anyone with a video camera is more than welcome to send it to me.

Just try to stay under 70 mph as much as possible... RPM's start getting up there after 70 mph and that really starts to burn gas...

Yeah, I'd say the mpg difference between a 15" stock wheel, and a 18" aftermarket wheel/tire could be AS MUCH as 6-8 mpg difference. When I had my 16" alloys on vs. the stock 15" steelies , the 15" got me about 4 more MPG better (43 vs. at best 39 mpg average). So... going to a 17" ... or even a 18" would even be a further drop in MPG... so I could easily see 5-6 mpg less on a 18" wheel. Not to mention going w/ a 17" wheel = 215 tire width, or a 18" would have at least a 215-225 width = worse aerodynamics up+ around the wheel wells/frontal tire area- a larger tire width is another major culprite that cuts into your mpg / not to mention wheel/tire weight.

Personally, I think a 15 or 16" wheel looks proper on our smaller cars. I've seen 17" alloys on the xA and it does look a bit out of place/disproportionate. Now on a xB1 , I could easily see a 16" or 17" alloy , given the slightly larger wheel wells, size of car that is.

I've gotten 430 miles before refilling.

ok all I do not know much math but I got about 300miles on a full tank to Boulder, NV and on the way back I got more I had about 2 gallons OVER reserve...

Ah! On my 2nd fill-up (first was 29mpg less than 2 weeks ago), I got 23mpg. Yes, 23!!! All city stop-and-go except 1 25-mile round trip.

23mpg is ABSURD!!!
