WHAT IS YOUR MPG?

267 miles on 6.4 gallons fill up. Yup, 41mpg. I hope to have some videos soon of mydriving style for and against great fuel economy.
When I got my worst at 31 mpg I shifted at 5 grand, launched my car at 3 grand chirping the tires and idling with ac on full blast during my lunch break, which is 45 minutes. To get less that that, you have to have an auto tranny, remote starter and a parachute behind your car.

Today I made a single 40 mi round trip and I'm betting on it that I got 35+ mpg because my gauge is still on the first tick mark. However, having said that, that was 40 mi; if I were to drive 40 mi everyday I'd get better fuel economy but still be filling up just as often. I guess it evens out; short trips, junk fuel economy, long time btwn fillups vs long tips, good fuel economy, short time btwn fillups. Figures...

Ohhhh, ok. Unfortinately what you said is true. The engine takes way more gas at idle to warm up, than to idle at operating temp. At operating temp .12 gallons an hour of gas. At cold startup close to a gallon an hour. Letting it warm up before you drive off just makes it worse. Best to hop in, crank and go driving like a little old lady til it warms up.
Having said that and driving 7 miles 3 times a day, I did manage 37 mpg before I lowered it.

Yeah I used to average in the low-20's when I drove less than 4 hilly miles to work every morning. Looking at the Scan Gauge you can really tell that the first few minutes just burns gas, especially when it's cold out.
Now I work downtown and bike to work, so I guess I'll now have to calculate my fuel economy in miles-per-burger.

Well on the highway i always get 36-40 but in the city depends on how ____ed off i am
Otherwise in the city if I drive like my grandma I get 27-30. But if I drive like I want to I get 23 going up to 5,300k every gear up to 3rd. Yes I go like 45 in a 25, but I've never gotten pulled over in the city. I have never gotten into an accident either! woot!
Depends on the weather as well, and if I feel like having my CAI or my Stock Air-Box.

Depends on how you drive it on the highway. And yes jetta's always have problems...espeacially the Mk4's. Mine just stopped starting for no reason. Every time i would have to jump my car to go to work, and the next morning I had to do the same thing. I don't know though, the box would seem to do worse because of it "boxy" features, but it all depends on how low you are, and what rpm's u r at. Also if your bearings arn't lubed your MPG is going to suck ___. Xa's are known to have rear bearing problems...

ive played with my mileage this past week and am not that surprised. 37 mpg. 353 miles. its mostly rural driving, never see any open road going to work.about 5 miles is my longest stretch for a total of 30 miles one way. didnt go above 3k rpm, coasted on hills, increased tire pressure to 34psi. i have the added weight of my sound system and other things, cai, exhaust, 17X7 chrome wheels. i have several things against me for fuel mileage but able to get 37 mpg i can almost laugh @ most people. i fueled up @ walmart this afternoon and almost laughed when the majority of cars there were full size trucks and suv's. it costs me twice as much to fill up @ 36 bucks from when i first bought my xa, but id rather fill my tank than a full size suv for about 90 bucks. LONG LIVE THE SCION!

i get about 280 miles on a full tank . . . .=[ is that bad . . . . if so what could i do to increase my mileage . . . . . i barely drive on the highway and i live in miami where traffic is up the behind all the time lol[/code]

with gas over 4 bucks a gallon, ive learned to get my foot off the floorboard. i used to get around 275-300 till i changed my habits. living in so fla u cant run around without the a/c and w/ city driving, that isnt helping ur mileage. monitor ur driving habits so u dont go over 3k rpm will help. i dont recommend hyper inflating ur tires but a few pounds shouldnt hurt. one point nobody hits on is keeping ur car clean and polished. it reduces drag. my previous boss didnt believe me until i did his single prop plane. he got 5 mph more than he did the week b4. reduce the weight in ur car if u can. if i didnt show mine, it would be gutted.

In all seriousnss, I can not find a difference in fuel economy with ac on or not. I just know with my scan guage it sucked twice as much fuel at idle than with ac off. I use my ac on max air, recycled inside on fan blower setting 3.
Yup, light pressure on the gas and let the car or tranny do the work.Another option is to take the highway, interstate, etc anyway to go around traffic areas, roads with speed limits of 40 mph gets you the best fuel economy too. I take the interstate just to go 3 miles down the road, however I do not hit the posted speed limit.
Here is a link to my you tube videos I threatened to post of me driving efficiently and inefficiently http://www.youtube.com/user/mspider12 I work 7am to 10pm the next 6 days, so do not get offended if I do not answer any posts for a week.

Ok so I re-calculated my MPG and I still get 26-29 mpg 220 miles on 7.4 gallons of fuel. I say 26-29 because i drive in the city alot more than 45mph roads. In the city going to 5k almost everytime im in 2nd once I roll to 3/3.5k. I don't gun it from 1.5k to 5k, I just roll (slowly accelerate) to 3k and half gun it till 4k then gun it till 5k blip the shift (keeps the inertia/momentum going alot better) and let the clutch back out without accelerating into the extra gear above. Like 2nd gear 5k blip to 5.2k while clutch is in, put it in 4th, let it out with no foot on gas once it goes to 2.5/3k . Gives me enough time to shift/coast/get into better mileage gear and just barely use the gas after having hit 5k. I love the sound of my K&N cold air a little bit too much LOL. I do not always drive like this because I use backroads with a few stop lights when I go hang out and stuff. I'm NEVER on the highway and stop lights seem to like me alot I only get on the Highway to go to MD (rare) or to go from and to College. w00t for the Xa!

With gas where another fun (depends on your view of fun) stat that the ScangaugeII can give you is CPM or Cost Per Mile. You can now enter how much was paid per gallon/liter of fuel and have the ScanGauge calculate the cost as you drive. This will come up as a Cost Per Mile gauge, also in your trip functions you can view the cost of the current, yesterday's and the total tank fuel cost. With the new Add-A-Gauge™ function you are able to view current trip cost as part of the 4 simultaneous gauges.
Features like this have made even folks like myself press a little lighter on the pedal Heck I even took my roof rack off to get a little more distance out of my tank!!
