Good luck with the credit union. I had some friends back in high school that drove the sc taurus, they got pretty defensive when people asked them about their Taurus. Pretty funny.

A couple of issues with the xA (at least mine):

1) the clutch is a little weak. Mine slips when it's cold and/or wet (since it was about 6 months old). It's almost impossible to prove and get the dealer to fix it under warranty, so you'll have to live with it if you're unlucky like me.

2) for long driving times, an armrest will prevent arm/shoulder pain.

Other than those two things, the xA is a great car. I get 37 mpg highway and 35-36 overall, and I'm not easy on the gas pedal. It loves the on-ramps and off-ramps even in bone stock trim.

As far as colors, my favorite now is BOP. The salsa red is just another maroon to me. But that's just personal opinion--take whatever you can get.

like stated, the armrest is purely for long freeway trips in a manual, I never had a need for one on my 200 mile trips to LA every month for the shows.

I would go to an insurance site that will quote and just change the vehicles and see how that would effect how much you pay. Bottom line that's about right for a new car, your age and that your a guy. If you want it to drop below that either join the military, get good grades, or get married... but those are about your only options. side note mine in only $92 a month for full coverage I'm a little older but have a clean record (except the first day I had my license) plus I'm married and have the other two items going my way.

I'd highly suggest having a parent or family member with a good credit history be you co-signer to get the payments down lower.
