Default 06 Scion xA Water Pump Gasket Silicone or No?

The service manual doesn't say anything about putting silicone or sealant on the new gasket for the water pump.

I am working with a xB manual too though. Any helpful information will be appreciated. Thank you.

Same engine and same procedure to replace the water pump...no silicone or sealant indicated or needed.

Thank you! That's what I thought. I thought it was odd that every video I watched said to add it to the water pump gasket but the manual did not. lol
Better to be safe then sorry.

@DannyFrost and MileHightC, Hi, My mechanic always he use a pinch of the black color silicone (made for high temperature). He told me that he use just to be sure that the water pump /thermostat area will not have leaks in the future. In my Scion xB 2004 the new water pump have a small hole on the side. My mechanic also cover that hole with this silicone (I replace my water pump like 2- 3 years ago and no problem). There are using Aluminum and some plastic materials pipes/hoses adaptors. Can you trust them in case you will have a leak?
And if will be a leak, whom we will blame? The car part manufacturer fault? Or to blame for guilty car service (for the human mistake) the mechanic, or the sale man/lady person that order that part for your beloved car?

Do we want to be safe? or Sorry?

Here is how the water pump is looking on this side.

Here is how the gasket must have this shape to cover that area.

Right on. Thanks for the info. I'll put a very thin layer of the black silicone on the gasket. Both sides? Or...
I did notice the small hole on the other side of the water pump,on the cylinder block. Almost thought was damage at first. Haha. I'll cover that up a bit as well. Thank you

Toyota's FIPG material would be better than silicone. Use just tiny, tiny bead, like 1mm. If it oozes out where you can see it after installation, you've used too much.

The weep hole on the side of the water pump is there for a reason. When the bearing begins to fail and it introduces play into the water pump's impeller shaft, a small amount of coolant will leak from there over time. A few drops per hour, slowing increasing proportional to the amount of wear on the impeller bearings.

While a few drops here and there (which is easily visible as white/pink powder by just inspecting the water pump and its pulley) aren't a huge problem it serves to alert the driver that service for the water pump will be required soon. I had a small leak for several years before it finally progressed to the point where it needed a refill once every two days (at which point I replaced the water pump).

I wouldn't put adhesive to block off the weep hole.

I'm glad you said something because I didn't want to be 'that guy' again...seems maybe that mechanic doesn't really know more than some of the "you know whom" mechanics on here.

Yeah I had a feeling not to cover up that hole on the other side while I was installing it. Thank you very much for your help. Im sure I'll need more help as I continue.
