'06 xA Air Conditioner..

I was at a cvs last week looking for the disposable video camera. I found in the auto isle they had 2 mini roll up blinds for your winows. They are 3/4 the width of the rear passenger windows. I installed them on my rear windows and its the best 10 bucks I spent. The car gets cooler faster inside and stays cooler with a lower fan setting than in the past. I only use setting 4 to start cooling the car, then setting 3 or 2 to keep the car cool. Amazing.... If it werent for my need for speed I would get my windows dark as legally possible. Cops told me in the past they look for 2 reasons before they pull you. They will let you go if you go over the limit, but reckless driving, no turn signals and or tinted windows, you got a stop.

I don't know if this was mentioned already, but has anyone tried washing out the condenser. Accumulation of dirt, bugs, pebbles, and etc. possibly could alter heat exchange with ram air flow temps at the condenser. I'd start with this remedy first.

If the tips on here don't work, perhaps they know of something that will work in your area.

In TX (up to 60 days of triple digits) myself on a 06 xA and my A/C runs great as long as it's moving... But that's with any A/C system, the more air you're moving through the coils the colder your air is going to be...
Of course if you're in stop/go traffic your A/C isn't going to be as cold...
Tint helps tremendously...
Recharge your freon, and opt for the freon additives most dealerships sell... Help to lubricate your A/C system and drops your A/C temp by like 20% I think... It helps...

Tint helps allot cause the int. stays cooler in gen. Just the truth. However it's like putting in a light pulley. The results are not like putting in a turbo.
fabbing a second fan? lol where is that DIY?

i've got my windows tinted and it helps alot
you can get a fan for less then 75 dollars alone you still need to hook it up with switch and maybe a relay

I have the old relay kit from my old fog lights, I can use that to power the fan. Got to get the fan now. I looked at a 10 inch one at pepboys, but it needed to be bolted. Another brand I saw a few years ago used zip ties to tie or sandwich it to the radiator.

Re: '06 Xa Air conditioner
Were you able to get this fixed? I feel your pain -- I live in Phoenix AZ also, and the A/C works pretty well in my Xa. Not as well when idling (so a remote may not help that much), but it cools the car down fairly quickly and is icy cold, even when it's 115 degrees here. The ventilation ailment that mine has is that it can't pull in cool outside air when the lever is set to "Fresh Air" -- the incoming air is always hot, even if it's 50 degrees at night (i.e. no sunshine effect) and I'm in Flagstaff. I hope you got yours fixed -- if you ever found a responsive dealer in the Valley, I'd love to hear about it. Good luck.

Does anyone know of a more effective brand of A/C (or upgrade) for a 2006 xB Scion? Mine is OEM.
The last time I topped off the refrigerant Toyota said it might cost $2000.00+ next time because they'd have to remove the dashboard. Yikes! They added a colorant that will show future leaks. The top-off is still cooling after a year.
Also, should I have Toyota do the major repair the next time or would an A/C shop do as well, perhaps cheaper? My thinking has been that Toyota's mechanics are familiar with '06 Scions but other AC pros might only get to work on one once in a while and might forget a step.
Thanks, Kerry

Huh?
Unless they're in the dash replacing the compressor etc, a flush and recharge shouldn't be more than a few hundred dollars.
Or, you're screwed with a underpowered compressor from the factory
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sci...ac-tsb-103837/
(Scion xA has a TSB on the weak A/C) and Toyota didn't tell you about it (meaning they screwed you out of a free replacement).
Then they'll quote $3000+ to replace the compressor with the right one. In the meantime, you're stuck sweating in the Summers.
