Default 2nd gear, 4th gear, r gear All gone~~??~~???

I am driving a 2004 xb, it suddenly happened that when i am shifting from 1st gear to 2nd gear.... it have no response. then i tried the 4th gear...no response either...i tried couple more times and i would only be able to get into it 1 or 2 times..... but then when i am parking my car back to the garage...i found out the R gear was totally gone..i counldnt even back up my car no matter how many times i tried...gosh~~ i have changed my shift to a short shift..( sorry, i forgot what brand)...can anyone help me whts the problem?? and kindly advise me how to fix it?? i have been pushing my car couple times within these couple hours under the sunny hot hot day~~ pls help!~~~

Did this happen right after changing the shifter?

Nono..i have changed this shifter since 07 septemer..and bad thing only happen today... 2 hours ago...

its your shift cable.
same thing happened to a Eagle Talon i had some years ago.
it eather broke (i don't think so) or it came dissconected.

let us know what you find

possibly clip for the right side shifter cable came off.

shifter cable do you have a header? number one cause generally for under the hood shifter cable failure. if your lucky it did just pop off the shifter.

I DONT HAVE A HEADER... SO WHERE IS THE SHIFT CABLE LOCATED @ ? IS THAT A EASY FIX THAT I CAN DO IT BY MYSELF? PLS ADVISE..~~

check the linkage at your shifter then.

At least it wasnt your trans. I had the same symptoms before and unfortunately it was not the linkage.
