Default Air intakes...?

What kind of air intakes are available out there for my xB? I don't have a clue on this sorta thing so any help would be cool! Like, is their a different alternative to CAI? without going turbo or supercharged... I was going to get some headers, and CAI but don't want to risk hydrolocing the engine. So I want something else other than a CAI.

Thanks!

There are also Short Ram intakes. They are little shorter in lenght than the CAI and the air filter sits around the headlight versus under the head light and down inside the fender a little (actually somewhere behind where the fog light cover is). i would recommend going with a K&N Typhoon. I've been really happy with mine.

Well a short ram intake is basically the same thing as a CAI but the tube is much shorter. Also they are usually a little cheaper and easier to install I think. I've never installed a CAI but I've installed 2 short rams now. Pretty easy stuff.

I have the ScionFX intake, $79 from SSuperstore.com, it's both a CAI and a short ram. I've used it in both "modes", and prefer the low end response that the short ram provides. The CAI has a different sound to it and does do a little better at high rpm's.

It's worth a few ponies, but not mind blowing by any means. The sound alone makes it worth the money

Sorry, I know you said you use the short ram mode, how do you toggle it, and which sounds louder or better? I'm trying to find a different solution than replacing my trd exhuast. I want something a little louder and to give a little more umph and figured an intake would be the way togo due to it being cheaper and allowing me to make the trd louder.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Short ram is one pipe, places the air filter in between the battery and the engine. To convert to CAI, there's another pipe that goes from the short ram filter location to under the front bumper (right behind the driver side turn signal on my xA). They both sound awesome and make the car much more fun to drive.

Short ram has fewer bends and less length for the air to travel from filter to throttle body. This increases response, but the air it draws in is a little warmer than ambient. Horsepower is increased because there is much less restriction than stock, and the engine doesn't have to work as hard to get the air it needs.

CAI has more bends and more length, but with near ambient intake temperatures. The colder, denser air makes more power, at the sacrifice of the lower rpms (Less response). It's still better than stock, and it'll make higher rpm driving more fun.

You want to keep the exhaust, since the engine will be able to breathe IN better, it'll need to breathe OUT better too

I got a Injen short ram on mine! Would prefer Fujita instead but got hooked up on mine. mine is powder coated. Fujita has more power gains than any other short ram intakes for da xB's!
