Default Auto vs. Manual

with all the spam about gears grinding, it makes me want to keep my auto. because for an automatic xb, and its 1.5 motor, it seems to get the job done. I put on a weapon r dragon intake, 4 hour install (damn.) and i want a trd exhaust, headers (dont know wut kind), perrin pulleys, n a engine damper. But does the engine damper work with automatic?? Reply back please. I think the autos are just as fast as the manual, without all the grinding problems.

I think you should come to AZ and race me, to prove that they arent just as fast . I have about 10 legit hp on you in my manual stock.

Besides? What gear grinding are you talking about? My gears dont grind. How the heck would they grind? You mean if I dont use my clutch? hahaha....

I'll come out to AZ and race you in an Auto.

Auto's unfortuantely are not as fast as a stock manual . But you can do almost any mod that a manual can do with a few exceptions and get a good amount of HP out of it. Yes an engine dampner will work on an auto also.

Would an engine damper be noticeable with an auto? You can't dump the clutch in an automatic. From what I've heard you get some increased vibration if you install one since the engine isn't floating on its mounts as freely.

I had one on my auto for about 1 week and it did have a better response but the ride quality was just diminished so much I took it out. I even took it down to Weapon-R's shop and had them play with it but it kept rattling and shacking the whole car. I would recommend getting a lightend flywheel pulley before getting this damper.

Autos are slower, mainly because of the gear ratios. Manuals don't normally grind; people find ways to make them grind.

pros of manual: better acceleration. less stressful on engine pulling a load and going uphill. can extend the mileage by short shifting. cheaper to maintain since the clutch is usually what goes. can buy LSD for it

pros of automatic: easier to drive, lower highway RPM.

is there anything else to add?

I believe the speed or acceleration is being measured relative to the other scion model. If it be the auto vs the manual or the manual vs the auto

There is no way an auto is as fast as a manual in an xB. I drove both at the dealer, but i settled on an auto. because of the clutch problems i've heard about. I've read multiple posts about people's clutches going out around the 35-50k range. But for quickness, yes, a manual is faster, but really who in the hell is going to be "racing an xB" An xB isn't for speed its for the looks you get when your driving down the street If you really want to race something, you should have bought a tC with a manual... but thats my 2 cents
