Default box sounds like a lawnmower after header install

hi
I just finished putting on my header today on the xb and it sounds like a lawnmower when i go from 3.5k up to redline. I hope that is not what it is supposed to sound like. The only thing i could think of is that i need to hook up new spring loaded bolts because the ones i have were barely long enough. The connection from the header to the b-pipe ( i don't know what its called) is not perfectly connected. But there is no hiss or sound of an exhaust leak.

What do you guys think?

thanks

Did you remove the doughnut gasket from the stock header and put it on to the new one. What header did you put on?

Yes, i did put on the donut gasket from the stock header. There was also another gasket that was supplied with the header. The header is the ebay header. i think the company is dcs.

You really think it is the ebay header that makes it sound like that. I've heard people on here use them without a complaint. I even had someone check the welds to make sure they were ok.

So was their 2 doughnut gaskets or was the other gasket for the exhaust manifold side? Cause if you put 2 doughnut gaskets on then it may not be sealed right, and thats why the bolts wont go all the way on. If not, then im realy not sure. May just be the header, quality. Let us know.

There is the regular gasket that would go to the head and then another flat gasket that goes under the donut gasket. How long do you think the spring loaded bolts are?

I know with my DC Sports header the bolts went all the way on and looked just like when had the stock header on. Maybe try removing the flat gasket snd see what that does or call the company that makes the header for suggestions?

The sound of a lawnmower engine would be about equal to the engine in the car!
Any noticable performance differences? I'm curious about this...I've been thinking about a headr (namely DCsports), but I'm curious about the goods/bads of these low cost ebay headers.

i think the problem is that my donut gasket isn't getting a good seal to the b-pipe. So i need to go to the store and get some longer bolts for the spring loaded ones. Any size you think i should get>?
thanks

Man I feel like you are approaching this all wrong. Sorry but I think your problem's are mutiplying. There has been alot of good advice so far. So break it down for a minute, it sound's like you have the header. You need 1 manifold gasket (I suggest new). 1 donut gasket ( new). The stock bolt's the spring loaded one's will work. If you need longer one's something bigger is a miss. You may have the wrong part for the job. The header may be wrong. Check that out and see I have not heard of anyone needing new bolt's. It also sound's like several people are trying to tell you the same thing.

the header isn't threaded so that is why i need longer bolts and a nut for them. The header is right but it is the not threaded so that is why the longer bolts are needed. and likely a new donut gasket.

There should have been a silver doughnut gasket on the end of the factory exhaust manifold. If you didn't move that to the header you probably have a big exhaust leak and could be damaging anything nearby.

What type of muffler are you using and are you using an aftermarket intake?
