The difference in filter location on the xB is literally inches when comparing short ram to cold air. The air doesn't get much "colder" the pipe just gets longer IMO.
The Injen SR works fine for me.

I can tell you form my own RL experiences. I have the Injen CAI and had more gains in Highway driving and pickup when changing lanes and such along with my Racing Header.
When I changed it to a short ram last month I lost a bit of the gain on the highway and got some power on the lower end while street driving. It also sounds ridiculous. Hehe I feel like I am in a muscle car But not....

Well the xb intakes are pretty much the same. So pick whichever u want. If ur getting the corkscrew kind that interchanges between the xa/xb I highly recommend doing Cold Air. I've ran my Injen both ways and what I've experience is that the Short Ram mode draws in rediculously hot air which causes powerloss off the line. (I've experience intake temps as high as 150* in traffic according to my scanguage). It is alot louder since the filter is right by the firewall but its not a nice sound. Cold Air mode pulls nice from idle all the way to redline. Pulls in air thats pretty close to outside temperature, the corkscrew piping doesn't head up the air that much. And the sound is a tad quieter than Short ram but the tone is much deeper and just sounds o so right.
How's the AEM u have right now working for u? You can take it out and give it a really good polish to bring it back to life. Or if its really beat up you can have it color matched to your car, would look really nice and it should be a helluvalot cheaper than buying a new one.

I have my foglight cover vented, the Injen SR sits center and 6" behind it, it gets a direct shot of air.. my TB spacer also pushes it outward an inch or so, which helps center to this vent.

Thats not a SR though being that low. it's pretty much WAY UP near my upper firewall.
I had this same expierience, a CAI tears it up on the highway, but a SR breaks 'em loose on the launch pretty good. I have stayed with the SR, My top end is the same, I think my acceleration only suffered some from 100mph and up, and not by much. The SR does sound a lot meaner as well (as stated above).

you saying mine is not an SR?
it sure is.. straight from the TB to there (has a slight curve to clear the battery and a slight downward tilt, but it's a SR), my CAI went far below this vent, you could only see the pipe through there..
