it sure is.. straight from the TB to there (has a slight curve to clear the battery and a slight downward tilt, but it's a SR), my CAI went far below this vent, you could only see the pipe through there..

I've been looking for an intake too. I've never had an after market intake and am worried about water getting into the motor. Anyone know what a safe after market xA intake would be? http://www.afefilters.com/IntakeSytemstest.php This AFE seems to be the best bet, the Injen short ram is too expensive and takes in air right next to the "hot" motor, this at least has the heat blocker to help. Any suggestions other than keeping it stock?

Injen too expensive? it's worth it. Get an intake that quality is my opinion.

the difference between cai and sri is about four inches and a foot and a half of piping. Fancy "heat shields" are for the most part a gimmick for a poorly functioning product. if your worried about water getting in then you'll want to buy a cai with a bypass filter.

that will allow the filter to keep working properly in the event that water gets into the main filter

or you could just get a drop in filter if you want to stay stock

Ive had both on my xA, and can tell u without a doubt that the cold air is the way to go. I have the I-moni engine monitor that shows the air intake temperature and the difference is really aparent when i switched. The performance from the cold air is much more consistant because it just pulls ambient air instead of temp spiking air under hood. If you want the best results, heat wrap the intake piping in the engine compartment to prevent heat soak from motor, you will notice another 20 degree drop after doing so... look at my engine compartment pic in my profile and notice my intake piping leading to the turbo...

oh and especially if you are into bracket racing... go with the Cold-air... sitting in the staging lanes for just 2 minutes u will see a sharp temperature spike on the air intake temp, and the computer will pull timing and throw off dial-in time, it's inconsistant. With the cold air u can sit in the staging lanes with ur car on for 5 minutes and u will see very small increase in air intake temp compared to short ram... cold air will keep tune consistant and ur bracket racing times consistant

I had this same expierience, a CAI tears it up on the highway, but a SR breaks 'em loose on the launch pretty good. I have stayed with the SR, My top end is the same, I think my acceleration only suffered some from 100mph and up, and not by much. The SR does sound a lot meaner as well (as stated above).

I have my foglight cover vented, the Injen SR sits center and 6" behind it, it gets a direct shot of air.. my TB spacer also pushes it outward an inch or so, which helps center to this vent.
Are those vents in the foglights custom made? If not, can you tell me where you got them?
