Default CEL on, codes pulled, need help

So my wifes XB (2006, mt, less than 40k miles) has had the CEL come on over the past week. I checked the codes, and reset the ECU, but about every 3 days, it comes back on. I had the codes pulled at an AutoZone, and its kinda vague. I was hoping you guys could help me out. The code sheet that was printed out reads:

BBEvaporative emission control system pressure leak
BBdetected - small leak
Probable Cause
bb1 - Faulty Fuel Cap
bb2 - Evap line leakage
bb3 - Pump Module Failure
bb4 - Canister Faulty

The car runs fine, no changes in idle, performance, or fuel economy.
After resetting, the CEL will come back on after 3 days.
I checked the gas cap to make sure it was on properly.

So here's my questions:

For those of you who have thrown this code before, what was the end cause of it?
Out of the probable causes listed, I can pretty much rule out the gas cap or the pump, because I checked the cap, and the car is obviously getting enough fuel to run properly. So where is the "canister" and how do I check it?

Also, where are the evap lines?

Thanks,

Matt

basically it is an evaporative emissions problem, and you need to use a smoke test to see where the leak is coming out of and replace whatever is leaking.

I have the same thing with my TC. I have heard of faulty charcoal canisters, but I have not done anything to fix it yet. I am looking to find the problem also.

they apply smoke into the fuel system to see where the smoke comes out at. Then when the smoke is found they replace what is bad.

it is what it is, you put smoke in the evaporative emissions system and pressurize it to see where the smoke comes out, thus revealing where the leak is.

thanks for that.... but where is the canister located? and can you give me a general location of where the evap lines would be?

that i couldn't tell you, don't own an xb, but search the forum, the tech section or whatever, maybe they have some articles or DIY's for it or something.

I fixed my wife's Camry a while back that was showing the same codes. Replacing the fuel cap did nothing, and I could find nothing wrong with the hoses for the evap system. So I pulled and tested the vacuum switching valve (VSV) from the intake, it was ok. There's another VSV on the charcoal canister and that one was bad. The dealer wanted a few hundred bucks to replace the whole canister assembly. The valve was $57 or so.
Section 12 of the xB shop manual covers the evap system thoroughly--part location, diagnostics, and testing procedures (you might need a volt/ohm meter and a 12 volt power source). The link to the pdf's of the manual are easy to find on the board. Good luck with it,

MD

First of all see it it's still covered by emissions warranty. It may also be a subject to a recall or may be there is a TSB regarding this problem. It'snotvery likely that you have a leak in the Evap system, but there were cases when water collected in the canister,or may be a stuck valve. Search on this forum- very recently there was talk about this issue in a different thread somewhere.
