Default Cleaning Intake ?

Last time at the dealer (and I do mean the LAST time if I can help it) and at 45k they said that my intake needed cleaning. Not the injectors or anything I am used to hearing but he said 'clean the intake'. I declined because I usually do my own work (and after the bad results of their "tires for life" program). I have gotten around the power steering/ brake fluid changing thing (and will be glad to divulge privately) but this one has me baffled! Any ideas? You 'guys' are always a big help! Thanks. Socks

do you have stock or aftermarket.......either or.......the intake if stock is only the filter would then be replaced if needed so....if aftermarket....they cant determine if that filter needed to be cleaning only you would know depending on miles put on the filter

What they were talking about came with a 60 or 70 dollar price tag. I have a K & N filter so know about that. It sounded like the old 'Jiffy Lube' , "your injectors need cleaning and it's only $85.00" routine. I have never seen anything like it in the book (that I recall). I'm beginning to think that maybe I didn't hear him correctly since absolutely no-one on this site has heard this. Thanks!

What about cleaning the Throttle Body? Last time I was in, they recommended to clean the Throttle Body and the MAF (mass air flow) sensor. I am waiting until just before my next oil change to do it (which seems to be recommended).
The threads below will hopefully help. The Throttle Body thread is for a Lexus, but the procedure is very similar. Let us know what you did.

uhh.. if you have a K&N filter.. and they said you need to clean it..
well.. if it needs cleaning.. clean it yourself.

don't just completely ignore it.. though for certain, don't let them charge you or have someone else do it.

seriously though, when was the last time you cleaned it?

I've got a K&N and it gets cleaned at around 5k intervals. Just changed the oil this past weekend (and cleaned the K&N and noticed that there is a sort of filter looking thing above the air filter (downwind of and the direction happens to be 'up'). Might that be what they wanted to clean? It did not seem removable to me and that was the first time I had noticed it as the K&N comes out without having to take too much apart.
As an aside guys, this time I noticed that the dealer had not changed the oil filter the last time they changed oil (unless they have switched to Purolator One filters!). Precision Toyota in Tucson, and I will be talking directly to California this week negotiating some sore of extended warantee deal as a result (dumb bastards).
