Default Clutch going out?

Last night on my way home I started to notice a weird noise when I reached my usual shifting point(3k),it only happened maybe 3 times then stopped. Tonight on my way home I was coming to a red light so I coasted, the light turned green and I was still at about 20-25 mph so I hit the clutch and attempted to put it back in 3rd...I blipped the throttle and heard and felt a nasty popping, felt like something was grinding under the clutch,I immediately tried to recreate it but it was fine. The next stop I tried to do it again and it did...but not everytime. I will be taking it to the dealer on Monday but just wanted some input if possible...Thanks.

Could be a warranty issue but if it is simply worn out I suggest upgrading to heavier pressure plate along with new disk. They didn't upgrade the clutch for the xB's additional weight from the Echo and clutch life spans are shorter. Good luck and keep us updated with your findings.

From all the different ones I've heard from. It's looking like around 50K if treated nicely. Some are upgrading to beefier presure plates early to avoid burning out the OEM disk early. IMO, I feel Toyota should have used a better better one considering the additional load it would be required to carry.

I know the clutch..or certain parts are not covered under warranty, but,if the clutch is going and I buy an upgraded clutch kit, is the labor to install it still covered by toyota?

BTW: I have an xA not an xB.

Doubt it. But it never hurts to ask. If you don't like the dealers labor quote you could always shop around for a better price from a trans shop.
