Default Cold Air Intake Question

I think I already know the answer to this question but I'll ask just in case.

Is there any risk that adding a CAI can void the warranty or cause an issue that voids the warranty?

Aside from the typical eBay risks, any reason to avoid one of the cheaper CAIs sold on there?

Thanks!

there is some law, its like magnunsons, something or other, i forget what its called, so hopefully someone remembers, but it says that the dealer (or whoever may be repairing your car undersaid waranty) has to prove the aftermarket part damaged whatever broke on your car. Therefore no, a CAI could not void your waranty unless it directly affects something breaking on your car further down the road (i doubt it). And also as fa as buying intakes off of ebay, i pesonnally wouldnt do it. its probably better to just buy from a well known site and pay a few extra dollars, thats what i did and i dont regret it. I reccomend www.ptuning.com. they are a shop based in virginia a few miles from whee i live, they'll tak care of you.

It's the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and you're right. I thought that was the case but had read in another forum that a CAI could void the warranty. (Granted that was on another make.)

Another question, how hard is the CAI to install?

as far as i know, it shouldnt void it, unless it somehow breaks and destroys your motor, which is doubtful, but to answer your question CAI is super easy to install, maybe a 30 minute install, an hour if youve never done it.

When i put my Injen CAI in , i had never done any car work before, and it took about 40 minutes, just because i took my time to make sure everything was done right.

Inky what the weather like up there in the Mountains? bet its cold ..... No a cold air intake does not void the warrenty and if your worried about it then keep your OEM stuff and if something breaks throw it back on ........... truthfull I highly doubt anyone working in a Toyota/Scion dealership in New Mexico really cares......... considering most of them don't have much respect for anyone elses stuff........

( I have much experience dealing with both American & Karl Malone Toyota in Albuquerque and I don't have very many nice things to say about them)

oh yeah by the way a little plug for my original club......... clicky.........http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/nmscions/

If you are still worried you could have the dealership install the CAI. They
would probably insist that it be the TRD one and they’d also probably charge
you a couple of hundred bucks BUT any work they do is covered.

only risk with a CAI is hydro lock. Thats probably the only way it can mess up your engine.

As long as whatever breaks is not related to the CAI or caused by it. It does not voids the warranty. I used to visit dealers for warranty legal issues when I worked for TMC and I never turned down a repair for due to an aftermarket part as long as it was not related to the problem. I did turned away a few with worn out cilinders and rings due to lack of what is considered propper maintenace which is the responsability of the owner and the manufacturer clearly states the recommended schedule. In the case of a CAI, keep that filter clean and replace it if it breaks.

You could possibly foul the MAF as well, if your fair filter is oiled. Shortrams are probably more succeptable
