Engine Code query
One of my guys, rollin in an RS2, say his check engine light is on and when he got the code read, it says P0012. Anybody wanna take a stab at what it means?

duh, I shoulda thought of that. Late night posting never goes well.
just in case anyone else gets it, this is what I found
P0012 Camshaft Position "A" Timing Over-Retarded (Bank1)
That could cause a rough idle. Would also have a lack of preformance/power too though. I would clear that out and see if it comes back. Some of the possible causes are dilluted oil or a problem in the PCV (OCV) system. I would see if the code returns before changing anything.
also:
Check Engine Light Code P0012
Variable Camshaft Timing Over Retarded
The comprehensive component monitor ( CCM ) monitors the Variable Camshaft Timing (VCT) position for over-retarded cam timing. If the cam timing exceeds manufacturers designated limit or perhaps even becomes retarded, the check engine light will come on
This can be caused by
1/ Incorrect camshaft timing
2/ VCT solenoid valve stuck open or continuous oil flow to piston chamber - worrying!
3/ Camshaft advance mechanism binding, or faulty VCT unit
In this instance the check engine light code is caused by a mechanical fault of the VCT unit or related components, so electrical diagnosis is pointless. Possible symptoms may include rough idle, stall or hard start
this link was informative as well
