Experienced Mechanics Wanted!!
This question is related to the Toyota Echo. The Scions xA and xB share the same engine w/ the Echo so it pertains to you guys too.
The Scion xA/xB engine type is the 1ZNFE ( also the same engine in the Echo )
1.5 liter - 108 horsepower
The MR2's engine type is the 1ZZFE
1.7 liter - 138 horsepower
It sure seems like the MR2 uses a stroked version of the Scion engine. They almost share the same layout since the Scions ( and Echo ) are front-wheel drive while the MR2 is a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive. They both lack a drive shaft.
I wonder if you could stroke the 1ZNFE to the displacement of the 1ZZFE and use parts from the MR2. I have seen guys that own early model Civics use the pistons out of Honda Goldwing motorcycles in their cars, so why not?
This being the case, I wonder if an MR2 engine would fit in our cars. I wonder if our engine would fit in theirs. I wonder if the transmissions are interchangeable. I wonder if anyone has ever done or thought about this before.
Point is, I am wanting to stroke my engine to about 1.7 liters and have been doing alot of homework on the subject. The MR2 caught my attention and I don't know who else to ask.
Please help me!
Much Love to the Scionlifers

The 108hp n 103hp is the same. All they did was change the standard for rateing horsepower so its the same amount of power just a different number, nothing else has changed.
Now, what MR2 r we talkin bout cuz I don't remember the MR2 ever comin with a 1.7. the Spyder had a 1.8 which was a retuned version of the one found in the corolla. If u can find a crankshaft that will allow for u to performe the stroker conversion then go for it. What I do know that will work is if u bore the block out to a 1.6L or a 1.7L displacement and bump the compression from 10.5:1 to 11:1 with a tune for premium fuel you will gain a good bump in power. While ur at it port n polish the head and have it matched to ur intake n header, and do a 3 angle valve job to it. Also replace the valve springs with some strong high quality ones so u can rev the little motor even higher much safer.

1984-89 MR2 = 1.6L 145 hp I4
1990-99 MR2 = 2.2L 135 hp I4
2.0L 200 hp I4
1999-07 MR2 = 1.8L 138hp I4
The MR2 gets 138 horsepower in its 1.8 trim. Does it run on premium fuel? I wonder what engine parts are interchangeable.
This is the problem w/ doing something that no one else has done. ( Or @ least no one I know ). No real info on it. Besides, it's the same company w/ almost the same displacement engine. I honestly feel they didn't do anything so revolutionary between the two engines that would prevent part swapping.
You know, if we drove Civics we wouldn't have this problem lol. The aftermarket gives Honda a BJ w/ all the options for upgrades.
