Default Flashing CEL, VSC and Trac Lights

I really would appreciate some input on this guys. My wife is driving my xB back in Germany while I'm visiting the US and she told me that the three light mentioned above will occasionally flash or come on and stay on for less than 30 seconds. By searching this forum I gathered that the CEL also activates the other two lights. The only current modifications are Eibach Springs and Injec CAI. She did mention that when driving on the highway that the lights WILL NOT flash or come on at all. Any ideas what's going on?

Do a search on this site for VSC and you will see a myriad of reasons. I have had the lights come on for the following reasons myself:
1) bad alternator replaced under warranty
2)loose gas cap
3) VVTI mechinism messed up-replaced under warranty
4)loose fittings on CAI

I would tighten the gas cap and the CAI fittings first----Are there Toyota dealers there?? Good luck!!

Thanks for the reply. I have read up on most of the items you listed, but it's hard to troubleshoot from half way around the world...lol. I had my wife check everything that I could think of including all the CAI fittings and connections. According to her, they are all good. I am thinking that it might be involving the MAF since that seems to be a rather common problem with oiled CAI filters. I'm gonna order some electronics cleaner and send it there and let her clean the MAF with it. It kills me that I'm not there since i can figure it out with a DMM...lol. I was also thinking of ordering a Scangauge 2 and let her hook it up and see what it says. I figure I can use the Scangauge 2 on any car so it won't be a waste of money.

Exactly right! I plan on getting one in the near future. It will be a nice companion to my OBDII scan tool.

Makes more sense to get the DTC befor diagnosing what is wrong. Once you get the code then you have an area to look at, instead of just making guesses.

Well, I got back and found the problem. I caused it...lol. I had returned most everything in the engine compartment to stock because my wife acted like she wanted to sell it. Apparently in doing so I didn't tighten the ground at the tranny very well so while she was driving, it loosened enough to cause an intermittent ground. A quick twist of a wrench and all is good.

We are going to keep it. It's almost paid off so I'm gonna get another vehicle when we get back to the US. We are gonna use the xB for when we have kids which should be in the next couple of years. Of course the kid car's gotta be nice too....so on with the mods!
