Gude Dyno Results!

Gude Dyno Results!
I started a new thread because I didnt' know how many of you were still watching the old one. As most of you know, Gude Performance sponsored my car, and in turn did a whole top end build for me. It took a couple times to get it right, but in the end, it was worth it...so far. As far as the work they did, they maxed out the throttle body, reground the cams to 420 lift and 244 duration, port, polish, replaced valves and even had new heavier valve springs custom made. The set up was done for a supercharged set up. But I pulled on the dyno without it to get you NA guys some numbers. But figure to get at least 5 more hp out of a set up for a planned NA car.
There are a few pro's and con's to doing this...
Pro's:
1: This is both a pro and a con, depending on how you like it. The intake gets VERY LOUD. Louder than my exhaust! Granted, my Ganador has 2 mufflers on it to keep it quiet, but it's still pretty loud. BUT...it sounds like a badger or bear under your hood growling, so it's kind of cool
2: For $500 or more less than a supercharger or turbo, it is only 10hp short of either compared to my supercharger and other mod setup( I pulled 128 with my supercharger on).
3: So far, no CEL's have been thrown, so the computer doesn't seem to mind.
4: Durability over the abuse a forced induction system puts on the engine.
Con's:
1: The engine gets louder. The valves are opening further and shutting harder, making for a pretty loud ticking noise. Kind of like a bad lifter. But since there are no lifters in this motor, that's not what it is.
2: You need a special tool, that only new Toyota's use, to get the head bolts off. DON"T TRY TO USE A TORX! You'll only strip them out, trust me, been there.
3: Unless you are very mechanically inclined, or have a friend that is, I suggest paying a shop to take your engine apart and put back together. This adds cost. But this is not for your first timer to try.
4: To get your best performance, you need a fuel management system. I will explain more further in. But I suggest the AEM FI/C.
My mods are as follows:
Fidanza Superlight Flywheel, 15" Work Meister S1(VERY LIGHT! About 10.5 lbs each), ACT Stage 4 clutch, AEM CAI, Megan header, and Ganador exhaust(Cat and resonator remain). And a Greddy Emanage.
Now about that fuel management. On the first pull, you will see I was running a little rich. The guy at the dyno shop commented that the computer must not be able to adjust enough. That turned on a bulb above my head. I still had the Emanage hooked up from the supercharger, hence it was still running the super charger tune. So I unhooked it and pulled again. I lost 5 hp in doing so, but the A/F ratio went down too. Still rich though, but I account this to the fact that the factory ECU only had a minute or two to adjust running on it's own, and didn't quite get it right by the time I made the pull. But as you can see, a fuel controller would probably gain you at least 5, and maybe up to 10, more hp.
Now for the numbers...
Dynojet
Temp.: 53F
Barometric Pressure: 29.889
Humidity: 49.495
Air Density: 98.38
Final Correction Factor: 0.9793
The first pull with the Emanage still hooked up.
The second pull graph didn't come through on the email. I called to have them resend it, so I should have it shortly. But it was 111.3@5700 with a O2 of 11.36. I have a paper copy, if I have to I will scan it in and post it that way.
I will be putting the supercharger back on and should be back on the dyno next Friday with it.

nice gains! like you said, some type of engine management should get you 5-10 more.
just wondering, why did you suggest the AEM FIC? i would think an e-manage ultimate would be better because it allows you to advance timing, which would be a big plus for the NA people.
i tried contacting gude via e-mail about the tC package, but have yet to hear back from them.
anyway congrats! i look forward to the numbers after you put the supercharger back on.

I will try to get something taped for a soundclip.
I suggested the AEM unit because it is supposed to be the best out there. It has a vacuum/boost hookup built in so it cam adjust timing on the fly. No connecting it to a computer needed. Plus, it is faster than the Greddy and can outthink the xB's learning computer. It will do everything the Emanage will, plus some. Go to thier site and read up on it.

^ i actually have it and researched a lot before getting it. it's perfect for boosted applications especially since you can tune while the ECU is in closed loop mode.
the only problem for NA people is that it cannot advance timing, only retard it since it was developed for FI people in mind. i'm almost certain the FIC is capable of advancing ignition timing and i've asked AEM if any future software updates will allow it, but doesn't look like it's gonna happen anytime soon as they told me it wasn't their intention for the FIC to do this.

Since you seem to be a serious enthusiasts-check out the dyno graphs on the interest in xb intake thread. The test was done on a Yaris, but we installed a prototype of our intake manifold (photos are up on the thread), our long-tube header, CAI and NST u-pulley. The power jumped from 98 wheel hp to 123 wheel hp-just bolts ons-no internal mods. Thought you might be interested.

wow now thats a jump ..but is it going to be for sale ??proto types get alot of people wanting but the buy one part is were everyone backes out..i really hope this car gets some good parts ...

Both the intake and long-tube header are going into production as we speak. We got enough Yaris owners to sign up for the intake and the same for the header. No deposits, just committment to purchase when the production pieces are ready (based on photos and dyno results). I am even having a forum member come by to perform a dyno test on their car so they can verfiy the results before everyone purchaes. We would like to do the same for the early (and late) Xb.
