just curious, how do you go by raising octane levels with ethanol and or water?

what math is involved if any to get whatever octane and wher could i get some ethanol?

octane is a rating of how resistant the gas is to detonation.

also, adding too much ethanol isn't good because the seals and fuellines in your box aren't designed to handle with it, so it could dissolve.

if you really want higher octane, just buy it, or if you want, you can use those NOS fuel additives to increase the octane.

putting higher octane in your car isn't really a good idea...i started putting high octane in my car when i first bought it and i was getting really bad mileage. After i put the regular octane in, my mileage jumped to 35 mpg. And it ran better too. It's not needed unless you have a turbo or supercharger in.

don't use ethanol. its not worth your troble.

tell you what i do, i put 3oz of Lucas upper cylender lub with 3oz of acetone to a full tank.
ive played with the mix and this formula seams to work best for me.

it's for a turbo application. incase i ever wanted to raise the boost levels. was wondering of was to give more octane or slower burning fuel.

also, are there any fuel lines and seals out there that i can use to replace the stocks so that it'll handle the higher octane levels?

its more than just fuel lines and seals.
ethanol is more or less grain alcohal and is very corrosive.
your entire fuel system must be able to handel it.
do some reasearch on E85 vehicals to see what has been changed about the engines.
i know alot about this because its widely sold in my area and i sevice the cars on a regular basis.

http://www.e85fuel.com/e85101/faqs/conversion.php

you also need to run a special oil because ethanol put more dirt into your oil the gas. its a higher detergent much like diesel oil. you will also notice a 20% less MPG then with gas.

im tellin you the lucas + acetone is a much better combo, and you will not have to mod anything to run it.
acetone atomizes the fuel better for a more even burn and also lowers the temp of your fuel. the lucas is just a very light burnable lube that helps your engine turn smother. im not talking about nail polish, im talking about 100% pure acetone like paint thiner. you can get it at walmart fairly cheep. you only use 3 to 4oz per tank so it doesn't take much.
you can try some simple things to see what im talking about. put some acetone on your hand ( it will not hurt you ) feel how cold it is and how fast it evaperates. it does the same thing to automotive paint for use in a spray gun.

try it your self. ive been playing with it for a few months now and i get beter performance all the way around and better MPG.

oh yes i was actualy more interested in your sugjestion to begin with when you mentioned it. i remember my dad always buying this big can of paint thiner, silver, not much markings on it and it was rediculously harsh on paint and was like lighting colong on fire...

so 100% acetone huh? i'll have to go look around. we don't have a walmart in our area. city of Tacoma is a walmart free zone until you hit Lakewood. just looking for ways to burn cleaner with adds on pump fuel when i turbo the xB. by chance, have you been able to measure the octane you are resulting after 3-4oz that you are adding?

i don't know the math of the octain rating of my mixture but i think pure acetone it like 150.
i will tell you that you CAN NOT run more than 20%.
do some searching on the web you can find alot of info on this topic.
its also widely used in racing. it also goes by another name " towleen", im not sure of the spelling, but i spelled it how it sounds.

Frogbox - i like that company and thankyou for that link it was full of info. now is it possible to use thier injection system they have listed for turbo diesels for a turbo gas settup? i like that adjustment system they have, how is only sprays with specific boost in PSI is reached and passed and automaticly shuts back off when the boost level has below the specified setting. if the system but be used for gas settings then a stage 1 would be just fine from the looks of things.
