Default Injen SR won't get along with my car!!

Ok...

I've been getting a CEL (check engine light) lately and I think it's due to the intake. I've fixed it before, cleaned the MAF, cleaned the filter, reset the ECU, all the usual stuff, but I kept getting CELs

Finally, I put the stock airbox on, and drove around... No CELs

I don't think the MAF is broken, because it works fine with the stock airbox. Only when I install the Injen SR I get the CEL everytime I redline the engine. When I put on the stock airbox, I redlined the hell out of the car, and nothing.

I connected everything correctly, everything is nice and tight. It's the model that includes the breather filter, I reset the ECU everytime I install it. Why is the Injen doing this?

Is the Injen SR just no good for the car? Is too much air confusing the ECU?

Is going back to stock my only option?

I put about 5k miles on it before the first CEL. The MAF was dirty and had filter oil on it. I cleaned it and had no problems until now (3k miles later)

I thought the MAF might have been broken or messed up from the oil that I cleaned off, so I had the dealer replace it. Now I don't think it's the MAF, because it's clean everytime I check it, and with the stock airbox on I get no lights.

It's almost as if the car is just rejecting the intake, and it's ____ing me off! I paid $150 and I love the sound and power increase.

Are you using the short ram that has the Oil filter on the tube that connects in front on the MAF?

what about running the SR and then going to advance auto parts and having them pull the code so you can actually see what it is..it could be something unrelated...I have read alot about intakes as I plan on purchasing an xB and the early model Injens had an issue, but for the most part haven't heard much about the one with the oil filter.

thats strange ive been running mine for 15k miles and had no problems....I would say take it to the dealer but theyll only blame it on the intake.

The dealer told me it was a "misfire code" whatever that means. He didn't tell me the actual code number. They basically just reset the ECU to turn it off and told me the car was running fine. I had the stock box on at the time... Once I re-intalled the InjenSR, BAM light comes on after a few miles...

Every time I re-install the stock air filter and run it for a day or two, no CELs. I'm going to put it back on and wait longer this time. Maybe a month or two with the stock airbox... Who knows, the CEL may still come on. Then I'll know it's something else.

If the CEL never comes back on, I might have an intake going up for sale soon...

maybe its a bad seal between the MAF and the intake pipe itself?

Do you mind divulging to us where you got such a good deal on that intake? They retail for 230, and you got it for 150??

Oh by the way, have you tried the intkae with a CAI config yet? Maybe that will clear things up.

Check the inside of the shortram pipe. When I got mine it had some manufacturing oil residue inside of it. I cleaned out the pipe completely before installing and mine has been on for at least a year with no issues (knock on wood).

Yeah this sounds really strange. I with dmxsoulja3 on this one, go to advanced and used their OBDII scanner and see what the code is. You may have problem with something else that will only show itself with the intake on. I know that sounds weird. Just make sure they aren't pulling your leg at the dealer.

Yeah, the first time I got the CEL, the MAF was filthy, and the pipe was oily too. Injen uses WAY too much oil on their filters! This is the new model Injen SR BTW. The extra "breather filter" did nothing to protect the MAF from getting dirty!

Anyway, I cleaned all of that out, washed the pipe out, and cleaned and recharged the filter. I was cool for 3k miles. When the light came on this time, my first thought was "must be a dirty MAF again," but no, the pipe, MAF, everything was all good. I thought maybe the MAF was just broken, but when I go back to the good 'ole stock airbox, I have no issues.

Something about this intake, my car just doesn't like it!

Yeah, I didn't trust the guy at dealer either...

Do they charge you to use that scanner? I think I need the actual code too.

If they scan the code and see that it's another problem, I'm gonna raise hell at that dealership until they fix it! And talk to the service manager about this "misfire code" crap...

Nah Advanced Auto will do it for free. I kone some of the guys at the one's here and they just let me do it myself. It's real easy. Anyway. Not all dealerships are like that though but some are. We're a dealership and we tell everyone what the deal is with no BS. We've even installed aftermarket parts for people before that we didn't even sell them. Now we won't warranty those parts but we will warranty the labor. But we're cool.

Oh BTW we have the same intake for the same price if anyone is interested:

sorry had to plug.

Is this the convertible CAI/SR? Or just a SR version?
