I recently installed the Perrin Pulley on my XB. I don't see how changing from the OEM cast pulley to the aluminum pulley could damage the engine. There is no damping being done. OEM is just a cheap as they could make a durable part pulley.

Toyota has a great reputation for reliability and durability. Relying on external dampers to prevent engine wear/damage doesn't sound like something to base reliability or durability on. That sounds like a band-aid for inferior quality and craftsmanship.
