K&N Intakes CARB exempt!!!
hey yeah weird... I guess it took a while to circulate the news and update their website... but apparently as of March 14th, K&N intakes for the xA and xB became CARB exempt. No word on the tC yet....
Its kinda weird b/c I remember asking K&N about their exempt status in April some time and they never mentioned it. (I guess they didn't know yet either)
this is from the CARB board where I spotted it:
The official notice for those of you who need it.

it means it passed all smog requirements and is now a legal modification in all 50 states...
For most of us it doesn't really matter that much. but for you cali folks that means you can now legally drive with the intakes on your car.
Its called an exemption b/c it means the product is exempt from the californian ordinance which restricts the modification of cars. Basically the law states that it is not legal to make modifications to (or tamper with) any part of the car which MAY effect emissions (actually I forget what the actual wording says, I'll have to look it up again, but that's the basic gist). In this instance we're talking about intake systems.
In order for a part (almost any performance part, not just intakes) to become street legal in california, they must apply for an exemption from the law from the California Air Resources Board (hence CARB). In order for the exemption to be granted, they have to show that installation of the part does not increase emission at all!
End result:
what this means for those of us not in cali is ... we're not polluting the environment any more than we were before
edit: oops actually EO stands for Executive Order... exemptions are handed out in the forms of Executive Orders... which states basically... it is ok to install so and so part on X car.
