Default k&n lies

overboost.com did an article on the k&n intake for the scion xb on their blue short bus.... here is the link http://www.overboost.com/story.asp?id=1101

now u can clearly see what they got on dyno before and after....96.3whp baseline then after intake install 101.3whp....and with some simple math we get 5hp increase....

now k&n claims a 8.4whp increase by comparing dyno's done days apart and by different people..... http://www.kandn.com/dynocharts/69-8605TP.jpg

dont know about you....never have or will buy k&n products....

I remember someone in this board saying that K&N only took it to 3rd gear while they dynoed theirs at 4th and got around 5-6 hp

I don't care how they advertise it. K&N makes the best filters hands down. If it works it works. Plus, 5hp is pretty darn good considering AEM was what, 3hp or something like that?

There are also a couple of other things to consider. What size wheels were on both cars. What was the temp and humidity that day. There are so many different things that can affect horsepower on a dyno its unreal. My buddy had his turboed Civic Si dynoed last week and he made 7whp more just by letting the car cool down for ten minuets. So k&n might not be lying.

give me a break. 8hp? actually, k&n doesn't lie. if you are taking into account that it made 5 wheel hp, it could very well be making 8 crank hp. those are excellent numbers though. 5hp on a 100hp car is a good improvement. i don't think an intake on an RSX or other 200hp car would add 10hp, and especially not 16hp. take into account the size of our engine and the weight of the car, and 5whp is awesome. but we've discussed this so much before.

personally i have the SPFR intake. i have an increased 1.42whp and it's awesome!

this test was done before the K&N intake was released: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=4168

note that the SPFR intake test was redone later and it gained a max of 5whp. not too shabby. i think yet ANOTHER intake test is in the works and that will help to even out the numbers a little. i'm actually a little suspect of the other 2 shootouts. i guess no matter what, there is going to be a bias towards one company unless they're all there watching it happen to make sure there is no foul play or anything.
