correction...my new tires are 24.3 Dia. My old(stock) tires are (were) 23.7. Within the limitsof size difference. I was told not to go over 1/2" of difference between the two and I am right at the limit, so it shouldn't affect it too much. Besides, these NEW tires have been on for 12,000 miles and it does not explain why the sudden drop in MPG. If it happened right after the change, I would know why, but it didn't.

Relax, I was responding to davidfneri's dilemma. You obviously have another problem because your drop is greater than his, sorry for taking the thread off topic.

it is hella nice seeing your tank at half and youve driven 140-180 miles lol

Default Not sure what is going on with my gas mileage.

Hello. I just purchased a new 2005 Scion xB. All I hear from people is how wonderful the gas mileage is. I have filled my tank up three times so far. My gas light is coming on at 260 miles! Let me add that I do quite a bit of highway driving. Is this a known issue? Could something be wrong with my box? I have no add ons or rims.

Also, does anyone have a good way to calculate gas mileage? Please help.

Well, this is an ongoing thing I guess...last tank was 23 MPG. I have tried two new gas stations and it is still bad. I put in some injector cleaner in this last tank. I understand that the winter blend will affect it, but I have not had this problem with other cars. I took it to the dealer and they said that if there was a problem, there would be a check engine light on, so I don't know what is up.
My 86 mustang GT got 28 HWY! My XRS got 38 HWY! I was just getting tothe point of accepting the 30 or so MPG on the xB when this crap started.
Should I reset the ECU? I guess I'll wait to see how the injector cleaner works out.....

I like my Xa but the main reason i bought it was for MPG when the deviation is almost 33% from epa estimates it starts looking like i got ripped. Makes me think of class action time. My 94 park avenue would get 24 highway and it was a lot more luxious And paid for already.

BTW if anyone forgot here are scion.coms specs
manual 32/37
automatic 31/38

** 2006 EPA-estimated 32 city/37 highway mpg for xA manual transmission and 31 city/38 highway for xA automatic transmission. Actual mileage may vary.

Well, here we are again. I hate to keep bringing this post up, but I swear something is wrong. The dealer is no help. He wants to charge me to diagnose and keeps saying it's the fuel. I have tried several different gas stations.

The latest MPG is 20.89. I went 210 miles when the fuel light came on. I put in 10.05 Gallons. and it figures out to 20.89.

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE help me on this. I am not talking about Scions getting bad mileage...I am worried since mine has dropped over 10 MPG since septr-oct. Please help!

the xrs/ any corolla will get better mileage because of a few factors.
more hp with only a slight bit more weight ,
more aerodynamic. alltho not by as much as you'd think
better gearing for mpg
and u didnt have to work the motor as hard.

expecially coming from 170hp to 108 and driving it harder since u were used to more.

also. does your car feel slower? like boggy ? accellerate differently ?

hmm.....

maybe a parking brake is stuck? or wheel bearings are too tight. far fetches but theres gotta be some sort of reason. i dont get much better but i floor the schnit out of this lil car.

It does seem to bog down between shifts, but it may just be me. I put in some injection cleaner last tank.

Today I filled up and am going to drive this whole tank without the traction control or OD on. I only do city lately, so the OD won't be a prob. Will this hurt my tranny?

I read somewhere that the most efficient RPM is 70% of the max torque RPM. So by not running it in OD all the time, I may pick up a few MPG at lower speeds...meaning it won't be bogged down in OD while doing 30-35 MPH.

it's fine you're driving at low speeds in the city anyways.

if you feel the car is bogging take it into a dealer and explain "feels sluggish" stuff like that .

are you high on pcp? class action lawsuit? toyota doesnt make the mileage numbers the us government does via the epa.

you must be driving awfully funny . what are YOUR mileage specs ? aka what you are getting. then please explain driving habits

Just a couple of tips when looking at mileage..

Try and go to the same station AND the same pump.

Do NOT top off. When the pump stops, stop fueling. You can actually loose gas when you top off in some of these vapor recovery systems we have in CA.

I average about 29MPG in my box, which sounds about right from what I'm reading.

Actually i prefer crack but thats a different subject

Same gas station same pump conservative driving 50/50 highway/city
25.3 mpg

Same gas station same pump conservative driving 95/5 highway/city
28 mpg

now i can understand a couple of mile mpg difference But 33%? Are you smoking pcp? Yeah class action sounds about right. MPG and Features was why i bouoght this car. For the same price with the promotions i could of got an aveo LT with everything including a sun roof and cruise control
