Default Looking to install a turbocharger for my XB....

Well, I have gone around with a couple of friends of mine that have turbochargers in there cars. So, I was wondering maybe I could install a turbocharger into my box, alright my box is automatic but they said to me that I will have to mess around with my transmission and buy all these parts for it. I run an automatic, so I was wondering would a supercharger or turbocharger ? which one? as well do they make either of the two for the XB? and is it worth it? if any of you have turbo or superchargers in your XB's please post here and let me know what you think of it, but im more looking into the turbocharger because i hear you get more HP that way.

is it worth it you ask? no, imho. i mean, if you want to boost something, do it to something that will yeild higher results. no disrespect to any boosted box's out there but i just dont think its worth it.

if you must go with anything, get the supercharger. i would think theres less modification to be done with it.

Honestly, for the money it would take to turbocharge your xB, you'd be better off buying a new car. If you want turbo, get a DSM or something. A turbo on these motors isn't going to do much for you. With the stock internals, you will only get 5-10 PSI of boost. That's going to be enough to introduce you to Mr. Torque Steer. Don't forget everything you need for a turbo too... turbo, manifold, larger exhaust, I/C, oil feed-return lines, fuel, boost control, fuel control, etc, etc. Sure, you could not install a lot of those parts, but then it would be a half butt install with shady results. And worst of all... an automatic? You'll be bored.
Either sell your car and get a used WRX, or keep your car for a reliable DD and get a DSM or something to fix up, up the boost and run 12s all day long.

GL.

Didn't know you could buy a new car for $3500. Oh wait, thats what a very reputable shop here in ky quoted my friend for his xB. Plus his work is awesome and I know he will stand behind it all of the way. Guess my friend needs to get it installed, dyno it and get some nice videos just to prove you all close minded people wrong.

You can buy a 'new' DSM for $3500 and have a very quick car. For $3500, I think I'd be a very disappointed turbo xB driver. I just don't see how a turbo is going to make the xB a sub 6 second car for 0-60 and run 12s in the quarter. I also don't see how it is going to fare on the track. This car just isn't the complete package as far as a performance car goes. Maybe we are close minded... or maybe we are just realistic. I accept that my xB will never be fast like my VR4. But it gets great gas mileage and is decent to drive around town... something my VR4 is not.

If u wanna boost, go right ahead. I hope it works out for you. Do not listen to all these people that say it is not worth it. Anything is worth doing to your car as long as you have fun. I know my xa isnt a speed demon (it is in my head, lol ) but that doesnt not stop me from having fun with my car. Ohh and wait, this car has a decent aftermarket support, and it gets better gas milage than most things out there.
So go ahead, slap a turbo or supercharger on there and have a blast wile still getting great mpg, considereing its boosted. dont listen to those that "dont get it". thats why their cars are boring.
Ohh and as for the person that said you need to run a sub 6 sec 0-60 for 12's in the 1/4. Its more like you need about a 4.5 0-60 to run 12's.

It's your car...do what you want w/it

I know a guy in Japan that had an HKS turbo kit for an xB for sale. He's a good guy and wouldn't sell crap. It was less than that TSI T25 kit shipped from Japan.

Let me know if you're interested.

They use Map tuning instead of MAF sensor. Also, chances are that the kit will never work to begin with cause the piggy back unit is probly pre tuned for the higher octane gas over there in Japan...hence why the Greddy turbo kit was nothing but problems and the earlier built model Blitz S/C's.

Cheapestly made you mean

A custom turbo is your best bet...look at E.L. Prototypes, Stafford Fabs, and other small shops who custom did a turbo on an xB...their gains are 20+hp over mega brand units like Greddy and TSI

/\/\ Maybe so, but i've had dealings with TSI with my civic and the only draw back to their kit is the fuel system:

Too many people on 7thgencivic.com have had problems with them. They've even been banned from that site. Poorly refurbrished turbos, missing parts, etc. Many members had to wait well over a year to get their entire kit to their door.

He was a little kid who boosted too high...and I meant the TSI Scion kit specifically...didn't mean to offend...nice civic, I need to to tell my friend cuz he has the same one and has been lookin to turbo for quit some time.

I know all the problems with Stafford but that primarily deals with staff like not answering back in a timely manner, missed parts in shipping, etc, BUT...if they went directly to him to do the install, you would get a bomb a$$ setup with an excellent well thought out fuel system which he has mastered.

All I meant was the little shops who do custom a turbo and know how to do one, you will spend less, get more hp, and most likely it will be local so you have a place to go if problems exist.

Tell him to get a Dezod kit. THE BEST 7thgen turbo kit. Pricey, but unsurpassed quality.

I'm beginning to take interest in the Blitz blower for the xB.
It looks to be a direct bolt-on, turbos tend to be more complicated on the installs.
The cheapest I've seen the Blitz is $2850, allot of $$$ for 50(?) horsepower, but would make for one interesting box.... :D

You'll still be modifying ur fuel system and tuning. Just as involved as a turbo system.
