why does Echo-bB think you can't do it....

i had the KAAZ LSD inside of an Echo tranny before i checked the final drive. found out it was too low for my plans and had to put the LSD in the Scion tranny.

the Echo and Scion(a+b) trannies are soooooo similar.
the two diff's i know about: 4th and 5th gear ratio's are diff.
and mounting tabs are diff.
the housing is still the C-15x class.

the tranny is also the same in a few other models....

DGHOTLAVA;
I personnally will answer this... you are wrong on same both our trannies are the same... We Echo owners have a C150 tranny while you XB owners have a C50 ... Difference ??? We have a 6bolt Final Drive while you guys have a 8 bolt Final Drive. Either way all LSD (not including the discountinued TRD units) have a 8bolt configuration. The only way to get one that would fit is finding a TRD LSD unit with a 6 bolt configuration.
I was the one that told KangaRod it will not work ... I personnally thought you could just swap out the input shaft and the ring gear, to a C50 ring and pinoin ... But, KAAZ corrected me and said it will only work if everything lines up... but it would take alot of work to pull the gears out of the input shaft to see if it fits. Now, I have yet to clearly prove that converting the C150 ring and pinoin (or input shaft and ring gear) cannot be converted to a C50...

But, as of right now... I have a C160 6SPD with a KAAZ 12disc LSD( the 12disc is the more agressive unit vs the stock LSD they sell for Vitz, XB, XA) and it works fine except the shifter sits alittle off center...

i have personal experience that proves otherwise.

from the scion press release....
DRIVETRAIN

Gear / Ratio C150 5MT U340E 4AT
1st 3.54:1 2.84:1
2nd 1.90:1 1.55:1
3rd 1.31:1 1.00:1
4th 0.96:1 0.70:1
5th 0.81:1 –
Reverse 3.25:1 2.34:1
Final Drive 4.31:1 4.15:1
the scion tranny will work because it it the same inside.
i have an Echo 5spd trans that i bolted in the KAAZ 8 bolt LSD. it fit.
i then counted the teeth of the final drive and got the wrong ratio.
i took the LSD and put it in my xB 5spd tranny. it fit.

i even ordered a final drive from TRD (yes, it has eight bolts). the final drive was ordered for a Yaris/Vitz (same as the Echo)

echo tranny info....
ECHO MANUAL TRANSMISSION SUITS VVT-i TORQUE
Toyota Echo has a five-speed manual transmission, to suit the class-leading performance of its VVT-i-equipped engines.

The Toyota C154 five-speed overdrive manual transmission has tall ratios for fourth and fifth gear.

The ratios suit the high torque of Echo’s 1.3 litre 2NZ-FE and 1.5 litre 1NZ-FE engines.
echo tranny = C154
scion tranny = C150

only the mounting tabs are diff from the two trannies i have.

the transmission Ihave in my echo is a C150, and they were saying that teh C150 is a light duty C50 (scion, JDM vitz), with only a 6 bolt diff and that I cannot change the input shaft and final drive because the gears would not fit (as per KaazUSA). Aparently the C150 is also found in the 1.3 vitz....
Which diff is Yoshio Factory running in their Vitz?

I do not have direct experience with either transmission yet, but I'd like to be at least 95% sure my parts are going to fit before I drop $1500

sorry, again you definitly WRONG ... You probably got an xb/xa trans and was told other wise when you purchased it.. I personnally have an Echo and have seen my tranny openned up ... Matter of fact I can show you the open diff out of my stock trans... Again your wrong on the tranny code... Scion tranny is a C50 not a C150 ... The C150 has a 3.5 final drive while the C50 is a 3.7 final. The Vitz RS in Japan got the C54.
To help you out ... Look on your drive side door. And look for your info sticker... There should be one with a letter a/t and the number that follows that is what your tranny is. I have looked at 5 different XB sooo far and they all say C50 ...

not getting into a ____ing match with you.
my words are coming from experience.

the transmission I pulled was from a 2004 two door echo. i know the diff between an echo and a scion....

you say the c50 has a final drive of 3.7:1, well the scion has a final of 4.31:1

i was hoping to get a 3.7:1 final drive, but it is something i could not find (found in echo hatch....not inported to usa)
i bought the TRD final drive gears (listed for the Vitz). and put the echo gears on it (since the first three gear ratios are the same...), but i changed my mind and put my 4th and 5th gears to keep the rpm drops between gears yhe same as i am used to.

again, i am speaking from what i personally saw and touched.

the KAAZ 8 bolt LSD bolted into the used echo tranny and the scion tranny.
the gears from the echo and scion fit onto the TRD final drive.
the final drive from the used echo was 3.5:1
the final drive in the stock scion is 4.31:1
the TRD final drive (listed for Vitz) is 4.0:1

so HawtDog - you think I'll be safe buying your FD and an 8-bolt FD is what you are trying to say?

I checked my door jamb and it says I have a C150 trans.

this should end a debate as to whether we have a C150 or C50. clearly shows we have a C50. this comes from the xB repair manual.
