Default Max power on gen1 auto tranny?

After doing some research on the forums for the past couple of days, I have found out the max power for a manuel tranny on the gen1 is around 250, but I could not find any info on the max known power on an automatic transmission.

I have a gen1 auto xb, and would like to shoot for around 160-180 fwhp with a greddy turbo -I decided on this turbo because it spools very quickly and offers a broad torque curve from what I have seen on the dyno graphs here- but I need to know if the automatic tranny, even with tranny oil cooler, would be strong enough to handle those power levels. And if not what do I need to do to beef up the tranny.

Much appreciated, guys!

I don't know what HP my Xb is pulling right now but in the last 8 months I have broken 1-Axil , Granaded 1 trany and broke the back trans mount "out" of 1 more trany ( left a hole the size of a soft ball in it) So they don't hold a lot of power.

When in doubt, Level10. My main mod next year will be to try and build the auto trans to hold 150 + a shot of nitrous. They have a valve body upgrade, torque convertors and a full rebuild kit, so we'll see what it will hold after that.

I'll bring a slide hammer and a spare axle set to the track just in case, the driveshafts are easy to replace with the proper tools.

where do you see about the valve body and the torque converter?

if our auto trannys are anything like the honda civic's then they should hold up to 180whp. a really good friend of mine was a tech at honda for years and said that he boosted a couple of auto civics and the tranny would give out around 183-184 whp. so ours is probably close to the same since we have almost the same size motors.

NP, not 100% sure thought they'll work with ours though. Anyone know what the model # is for the auto trans?

The gears are designed to handle a certain amount of torque without breaking down the lubrication on the mating surfaces which results in metal to metal contact. If you need to pass more torque then you need more gear surface or better high pressure lubrication. Axles are a whole other matter.
