Muffler shouldnt affect your coolant. Have you checked your coolant level? Whats the mileage?

this stament is dead on if your coolant light is red you have an overheating issue.

probably a stuck termostat , or massive loss of coolant. how did you lose coolant? not sure.

you may also have air in your cooling system causing steam to build up near the temp sensor.

please don't drive your car if the 'coolant' light is on! (it's actually the water temp warning light - it means your engine is overheating)

when you say 'just got an oil change last week - still a problem' does that mean this has been going on for more than a WEEK?

please, just take it to the dealer - I'm pretty sure we can't help.

how long have you had this problem? 1-2000 miles???

did it start right after your oil change?

have you checked your oil level (using the yellow dipstick)?

"Explodes" on you?

You need to check the coolant in the reservoir behind the radiator, not by removing the radiator cap. You're lucky you haven't burned yourself.

I would say you either have a low coolant situation, faulty thermostat, bad fan motor, bad fan relay or a faulty temp. sensor.

Dealer time.

Dont do anything but take it to the Dealer. Thats what the warranty is for.

this is likely unrelated, but anytime you have anyone change anything on your car, CHECK IT.

anytime... anyone... anything... check it.

if i had a dollar for every story i've heard about someone getting a lube job, and finding out much later that the oil/plug/filter was missing...then to go back to the scene of the crime and hear 'we can't be responsible for what happens outside of our service station - did you check it before you left?'...

just in case that wasn't clear... anytime... anyone... anything... check it.

the bright side is that for each and every one of us, there was a time when we knew nothing about cars. the reality is that most of us learn from others what works and what doesn't when it comes to our cars, and that's the spirit of this forum. there are plenty of times when i ask questions, and plenty of times when i relate experience. this is one of those times that i am glad to provide experience.

i applaud you for asking the question. a lot of people will let their pride get in the way of asking simple questions like this, and those are the unfortunate ones that learn not from others' experience, but from their own mistakes (hopefully!)

overheating.

Fan not working...

low oil level leading to friction adn overheating... but not seizing??? sounds unlikely...

it's a cooling problem.
Blocked rad?
