Is this number the same heat range as the other ones that are for the xB/xA?
It's the plug they list for the bb.

Then you don't have to worry about breaking that tiny electrode.
I think all iridium come pre gapped. They have the little plastic collars. You can double check the gap if you really want but shouldn't be necessary.

Yes, I had to re-gap my BKR5EIX from .032 to .044.

It may not be necessary to gap them.
Mine was .032 out of the box.
That is what the Manufacturer recommends:

Actually the gap on these Irridium plugs should be set at .044 NOT .032. The plugs allow the use of the wider gap to create the hotter spark with the same voltage. The wider gap is what helped increase the mpgs by about 2.
I am going by the Manufacturer's Recommendation
which Clearly States Setting the gap to .032 and NOT .044
and the Fact my NGK Iridium plugs came pregap at .032

Where is your Link to set at .044?

What do you guys think of the Bosch Platinums that don't need to be gapped?

I'm sure that they are a good product.

But I've always used NGK/Denso in Japanese cars, Bosch for my VWs and Champion & Autolite for my Chevys and Fords. Just me though!

Any plug that sparks will function. But I always check the gap to insure that it is running at optimum settings.

I've got on a cheaper set of NGKs but all i've done since owning my 05 xb for 3 years now is change the oil and keep air in the tires. Runs like a champ but it only has 35k miles on it. I really should get new tires soon and maybe change the manual tranny oil but definately not necessary.

That is up to you. You just won't see the full potential of changing to irridiums tho. no biggie

I have the NGK plugs in my xB as well. I will never go back to anything else. They work great and my car works better because of it.

I see that the NGK spec is .032 but I can say that the xB ignition has had no problems with the .044 gap. Seems to be more responsive and efficient so far. Want to run a few tanks through it to see if the mileage is any better.

NGK specs .044 gap for tC plugs. Someone with an xB or xA must have seen the larger gap setting and decided to try it.

Does anyone have first hand experience by installing their xB plugs with one gap, then regapping them later? I think the benefit of the iridium plugs comes from the smaller center electrode, not necessarily from increasing the gap. The Denso plugs I installed say they're pregapped to .028, I didn't check or change them, and still noticed a difference.

Also, the electrodes will erode and the gap will increase with use. Setting a .044 gap may work fine now, but you may have to regap later. Set it to the recommended and it should be fine until it's time to change them. I like to mess with my car but only if there's a tangible benefit.

Yes, I did that. When I first put them in I folowed the factory gap settings. Then I found out about the .044 and reset them to that and noticed an slight improvement in mpgs, power and smoother idle.
